I confess to finding enjoyment in reading, when I can get my eyes or hands on copies, 19th and early 20th century issues of bygone journals such as Forest and Stream, The American Angler and Shooting and Fishing. I have not had such luck in finding many copies of similar publications from across the pond, such as The Fishing Gazette and the Field. There are some similarities between those journals, at least that's my opinion, and this very forum. Opinions are freely expressed and exchanged in letters to the editor or articles, photographs (or photo-engravings) are included and the advertisements are sometimes historically significant and sometimes just amusing. Speaking only for myself, I find reading one of those publications by and large more interesting than reading most contemporary fly fishing magazines. I just wondered if any others find literary satisfaction in bygone words. Maybe I'm just an antique that sometimes lives, either deservedly or by choice, in the dustbin of the past.
