Glad to hear things are heading in the right direction. There's still a lot of water that hasn't made it under the bridge yet. Take care.

Jeff,
It was good to see you at the show and spend some time with you. Take care of yourself and rest up all winter because we have some great places to wet a line this coming Spring and Summer in those beautiful Elk Mountains. Be well. Bob |

Jeff,
Yikes!! After reading all of this, I'm going to switch my dinner plans from that burger I was going to scarf down, to a hunk of salmon I have in the freezer, and some veggies! I hope you're able to get out of your cave and share that wonderful collection of rods for decades to come!! . . . Rex

Hi Jeff,
You should head down this way for a break , there are no snow banks, the weather is a pleasent 70 to 80 degrees, and there are plenty of wild brown trout in the local streams and we always have a bed for visiting rodmakers and rod collectors . I know I had a scare a couple of years ago , enough to make me give up smoking cold turkey !, but your experience reminds me that I am drifting back to my old " must do that today" ways. take care Ian K |

Ian,
That is an incredibly tempting offer as it set off visions of KaKahi Queen dry's and Green beetles and Metallic damsell's and my Teal Caddis and the magic of your two Islands!!! And the very special people who live there!!! I wish I could arrange it as a break like that would be very Therapeutic right now. The Memories that you brought back of my time down there are wonderfull and very clear still after 15 years. Thanks Jeff Reed, Great Laugh Thanks my friend!!! |

The same thing happened to a friend of mine 6 months after he retired at 58. His physicians put him on a regimen of walking a minimum of 2 miles daily, diet
adjustments, fish oil, baby aspirin and a few other changes . It has been over 5 years and he is doing great, so great he has cut back on the walking routine
which he needs prodding to keep up.

I see that we are going to have to banish the CI to Paonia, CO as personal coach for the Gnome. That will teach him... or better yet, maybe a re-education
camp? heh,heh....

An aside to Cloozoe's aside.
My Uncle Ed, a marine veteran of Guadalcanal, Saipan, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and one of the first grunts to land in Japan was arrested some years ago for drunk driving in a shopping mall. Thrown into a cell to "sleep it off" he languished there for hours until his sister-in-law, who just happened to be an RN, found him lying face down on in the cell's cement floor apparently suffering from a stroke. He died several hours later in the hospital. Aside from some bad publicity from the local press the jail keeper sheriff went without reprimand. I once asked my uncle if he was ever wounded. Ed was a tough old bird and I remember him saying " Yeah I caught some shrapnel a few times and after the corpsmen got the blood stopped, I was bandaged up and marked "duty; no big deal". He never got a purple heart, nor did he ever express he merited one. But he certainly merited competent evaluation of his condition. If not at the point of arrest, at least when he was brought to the jail.

I just read of this news this morning and immediately put a call into Jeff. It appears he's doing well and full of pi-- and vinegar! He has started on a
new book project which he hopes to have completed by the summer. As an aside, according to Jeff, the deputy sheriff who gave him the sobriety test at the
police station discharged her weapon into her leg on the range! As Jeff told me, it's bad karma to mess with the Gnome!
