Gotta quick question,
Found a screaming deal on carbide guides from a local source, 8 mm and 10 mm. I bought everything they had. I noticed that the wire frame is just slightly higher than the true "low riding" strippers I see on a lot of cane rods. The 8mm are a bit higher than the REC's I bought this summer but the 10mm are lower and look better than the REC ones because the ring is slightly smaller. Anyway the guides I got don't look too high to me just slightly higher than others I've seen. Does anybody know exactly what the deal is with why some of the guides are low vs. high, what makers conventionally used in the past and why? For me the price was so good and they look great so I can't see passing them up to pay 10 times as much for a guide with a frame that's a few mm lower.
Anyway if someone wouldn't mind enlightening me to the world of new old stock carbide guides I'd appreciate it.
Cheers,
-John
