Family always comes first. There will always be a way to fly fish: from warm water to picking up cheap air fare tickets, etc.

Caution!!!! | #26 | ||

All very good advice, but let me throw in a word of caution as a retired executive. The family should come first... but that means different things to
different people. I thought at one time it meant upward mobility, more responsibility, bigger office, etc. etc. That cost me my first family. I've
watched many get sucked into the 18 hour days, the 6 and 7 day weeks, the 2-3 week trips, the late night meetings, the go-go-go. All of a sudden you realize
that there's no time for the family, you have no idea of what the hell is going on at home, and your sweet wife is asking for a divorce.
I've seen this happen time and time again. Because I screwed up, I tried to help some of my folks steer away from the situation. Some did, and some didn't... many of the didn'ts ended up divorced or with miserable home lives. The did's for the most part are happy, with good family lives (and time to go fishing), as well as relatively prosperous. My background is across the board... Military, Government, and Civilian industry; Aerospace as well as consumer and agricultural. The only difference is what you wear to work. Ralph |

As long as you can pay the bills I prioritze in this order:
1) Family 2) Fishing 3) Proximity to good Tex-Mex 4) Proximity to a liquor store that carries Samuel Smith's Tadcaster Porter I enjoy work but life satisfaction comes from the above. My greatest pleasure now is knowing my kids as adults and parents. |

CANEnABLE - No disrespect taken. CZ Kid - A very good point. Actually this is one of the biggest reasons I have resisted changing jobs up to this point. Frogmorton - I've never had Tadcaster Porter, never even seen it up here. I'd have to substitute Saranac Black and Tan, or maybe a short glass of Jack Daniels. With a good cigar. Again, my thanks to everyone for their input. |

North Country, nothing wrong with Saranac Black and Tan even if it is from Utica. Actually, I wonder if F.X. Matt ever knew Fred Divine...
Frogmorton, for me it's Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout.or Nut Brown Ale. |

Spruce -
"Even if it is from Utica" - OUCH. Actually, maybe Fred's and F X's association is what led to the black tinted varnish on some of Fred's rods.... |

I will never forget the day my wife came home from work six years ago and asked me out of the clear blue, "What do you think about living in
Florida?". It seems her boss had decided to move his corporate HQ to Sarasota, and he wanted to take her and a few others, with him. I was retired at the
time, and it was only a few months after I had had a cardiac transplant. I told her that I had at least one adventure left in me, so if she wanted to go, then
let's go. So, here I am in south Florida. I miss my Arkansas trout fishing, but this was her chance to further her career, and I figure I can bunk just
about anywhere. So I just moved my primary medical care to the Transplant Center at Tampa General. Well, needless to say, south Florida is the most incredible
place I have ever lived, sans Arkansas trout fishing. But the flyfishing opportunities here in salt water stagger the imagination. I am also raising a 13 year
old granddaughter, and the education system here and is far beyond what we had near Memphis. So don't ever be afraid to make a bold change. Life is too
short to be timid. If you get a chance, and things look OK, then I say, go for it. Life is a continuing adventure, so make the most of it. I'm 62, and
still enjoying the adventure.

S.G.-Can't go wrong with any of the Samuel Smith's. I too have a great fondness for the Nut Brown Ale.
