I just met Bill Taylor at the Somerset show. I bought his 7'9" hollowbuilt 5 wt quad. I'm wondering what others think of his work. Here's my humble review:
As far as fishability and castability goes this rod is unreal. I'm not sure I've ever cast a rod with a better taper than this. Quick and responsive is the best way to describe it. It's unbelievably light (I have to pinch myself to remember its not a 4 weight). I spent yesterday casting it in 20 degree weather and didn't want to come inside.
Cosmetics: the color scheme is stunning. Translucent olive wraps over flamed cane with black and red accents and signature wraps. I'd like to see a logo stamp on the butt cap.
Bamboo work: Flaming and color are uniform and outstanding, the color is great. There are a few tiny areas where the seem is not closed on the edge. Probably only matters to someone with a magnifying glass.
Varnish: Very good, a few brush marks and irregularities but quads with their large flats are tough and leave no place to hide.
My Humble Opinion: For $1350 this is one of the best. The taper and the light weight make for an unbelievable fishing tool. I think if Bill tweaked the bamboo work and the varnish just slighly more these rods will sell for $2500 and then into the $3000 range. I'm going to buy the 7'3" 4wt HB as soon as I scrape a few more pennies together, hopefully before the rest of you discover him.

I'm fortunate enough to own two of Bill's rods and love them both. Suffice to say, his hex rods are also awesome! It's very satisfying
to see someone so nice finally get recognized. Yes, there's probably a third Taylor rod in my future but now, thanks to YOU, I'll probably have to pay
more and wait longer. No matter, Bill deserves it. Congrats!
We've got more water in Sept. than Potter Co.
