I'm afraid I must disagree on a few points.
On the the stream in a pewter 6 oz. flask: Macallan 12 yr old when the temps are below 70 F, and Oban when when the temps are 70 F and above. Pre-Supper, with a Padron Maduro cigar or a classic Balkan Blend : Balvanie Double Wood 12 yr old or GlenFarclas 12 yr old or Dalmore 12 yr old.
After supper, with a CAO Brazilan Gol or GL Pease Odyssey in a large bowl Cavicchi: Lagavulin 16 yr old or Macallan 18 hr old. But if the economy has hit your hard, then punt 47 yards as Nebraska did in its last game of the regular season before the New Year . . . and find a bottle of George Dickel #12, dribble a few drops into the stream as a offering and then savor your first mouthful. Guys, Famous Grouse is not a malt but a blended whisky.
It would be sacrilege to introduce anyone to the delicacy of Malt Whisky by giving them Grouse. |

I don't drink scotch as much as I do good Kentucky bourbon but I would agree with others, 12 year old Famous Grouse blows away many of the single malts
I've tasted lately, and its the scotch I keep here when I don't know a visitors preference, absolutely no sacrilege in drinking a blended scotch in my
opinion, after all, hard to argue with its popularity in the British Isles and there's a fair amount of effort that goes into finding that perfect blend,

Needless to say I am sympathetic to the sanctions. I only offered "The Grouse" as an option. My own larder proliferates with malts to be shared with those of a common bent. "The Grouse" is to be shared with those who ask for a mixer (other than a splash of spring water) with their Scotch and only to give them a taste of something with taste.

COMMENT(from the Glenlivet site) A real cracker. The absence of chill filtration and a higher strength gives that single malt a bony structure and enhances its crisp freshness. American oak at its best (with the strong influence of first-fill barrels), developing an appealing fruity and herbal bouquet. Straightforward yet delicate. A perfectly balanced whisky which seems to blossom in every way, with a twinkle of youth in the finish. Forever young. A yummy aperitif on a late summer day, to be served with smoked salmon.

I have tried the Lagavulin in the past. Very ripe! Different. I like the smoother malts. I also enjoy the Macallan. Bourbon used to be 3 bottles many moons ago. Jack Black, Jack Green . And Jim Beam. God, they have become their own thing. I like Bullit. Spelling may be off. Nice day |
