Any of you have an extensive collection of Orvis catalogs? Any from the 1940s?

The 1950s issues are obtainable given enough time and I've gotten a few bargains since the economic downturn. However, I haven't seen a catalog from
the 1940s for at least 5 years. In the recent past Lang's had a few from the 1800s, but they're outside of my interest.

Hi Greg:
There was a 1947 or 1948 catalog on the Devil's Flea Market recently, but I don't recall the selling price. My own collection only dates to the late 1960's. But my long-suffering wife continues to wonder why I keep boxes of the darn things! Good luck with your search! Best regards, Scott |

I missed them--which pains me. Everthing I have, with the exception of a recent purchase of the 1952 issue, is transcribed at the bottom of the database.
A fair number of those from the 1970s and early 1980s where given to me by forum members Bruce Handley and "Ted Golden." Member "Slantrock" provided a copy of the 1948 Orvis "Guide to Better Fishing." |

Don't ask why, but I had a bunch of the Orvis Christmas catalogs from the 60's through the mid-70's (I think). Sold everything but kept a 1970
regular catalog, and a beautiful red cover 1957, and a 1959. When I had the Christmas versions, it was neat to see the progression of primarily bamboo to
mixtures of bamboo, fiber glass, and the start of graphite, then graphite taking over, and the bamboo models fading AND the way that the glowing descriptions
altered over time depending on the material. I was amazed at all the stuff they sold! Rick
