Also consider Don Schroeder. He's done a bunch, and they're drop dead perfect. He also can make (but not inexpensively) replacements for short or
missing sections.

steve blake, does work for most rod dealers, not cheap but brush varnished not dipped like some people, and jim payne only did brush work there is a definite
difference.

Steve Blake does great repair and finish work, but doesn't do repairs on the bamboo itself.

Without a doubt, John Gallas.

Think About it? Who previously owned the Payne Rod Company ? Who built ( almost exact) copies of the Original Payne rods? Harold Bacon. He is probably
best prepared . Second choice would be George Guba ..

Yes, I own several of Steve Blake's restorations, and his brushed varnish is as perfect as was Jim Payne's. Hard to ever find any sign it wasn't
dipped, it's that good.

Walt Carpenter built, restored, and repaired rods for the Payne company.

Nobody mentions George Guba? He finishes Hal Bacon blanks on Payne tapers. I have a Bacon/Guba Payne 97 that is very nice.

Another vote for Gallas. He used to do all of Mary Keane's restorations, which included some nice Paynes.
