Due to the afternoon wind conditions on both the Henry's and South Fork I would suggest a faster rod in the 8 to 81/2 foot range with a 5 to 7 weight line.
The Dickerson tapers suit these conditions. The 8013, 8014, 8014 Guide would be good choices.

Kind of depends on which part of the Snake you're talking about. On the South Fork - huge water - most of the time you will probably be using either large
flies or nymph under indicator and 3-4X tippets. From a boat, it's blind fishing, casting fast to the banks passing by. An 8 1/2' 6 wt. would be my
choice. On the Henry's Fork, if you fish the flat water, you will be stalking fish using small flies and 6X most of the time, so an 8-8 1/2' 5 wt. is a
better choice. On the faster water on the Henry's Fork the same rod as for S. Fork would be a good choice. There's really no one ideal rod for those
varied situations, but an 8 1/2' strong 5 wt. would probably be closest. Yes, wind definitely blows in the afternoons most every day.

the south fork reach of the snake is in my back yard. big waters with the flows in the summer time can reach 15,000 cfs. i would suggest a 8-1/2 to 9' 6wt
rod. you can have wind, big bugs,
let me know when you are coming and i can help out with flies etc |

Its nice to have a long rod when working around the oars. 8'-6" is good. On the South Fork I like to use my Orvis 8' 4 3/8oz Its great in the wind
and can toss those hoppers in July or if your lucky some sofa pillows. I also my Heddon 8.5' 2F on the Snake. If I'm camping in the canyon I like to
bring a small rod for use around the camp site.
