As someone who is new to the bamboo rod things, I have a few questions. First I will start off by saying I tie classic flies including atlantic salmon, wets,
and streamers. I try to fish classics when I can, and it's probably 90% of my fishing unless it's salt, then I am forced into whatever works. I spey
fish in the winter for steelhead, always on the swing with spey flies and dees. I have been collecting classic gear including reels and bags, as well as
various fly tying instruments. I have a fairly substantial number of Hardys, and a growing number of Walker-Bamptons and JW Young reels. I am not fanatical
about it, but when I find one I fancy I do what I can to get a hold of it. But I never had a bamboo rod before. I have never even casted one.
Ok, well I guess it might be time for me to get one of these grass sticks
So, for someone like me, who's new and wants a practical fishing rod,
probably a 4/5 or 5/6, where do I start for manufacturers? I would rather buy new, I am not looking for a collector's item that goes on the wall. If I am
going to fish it, it will probably get fished 60+ days a year on the WI spring creeks since I am reasonably close and I camp there a lot. I would prefer not
to sit on someone's wait list for a year, but if I have to, I will.
Any recommendations??
Thanks!
