Mine would be a Dave Male 7' 6" 2/1 for a 5 weight with a Hardy LRH and a Cortland 444 DT5 peach line.
I said I was bored! Can't get into reading right now and TV sucks! I guess I could get out all my gear and fondle it?

Fairly bored here waiting for the rain to change to snow. Was wondering what your current "go to" rod and reel might be?

Most of the time: 7'6" Winston Taper by Don Recker. Hardy Marquis #6 DT5 Cortland Sylk or if the mood is right Terenzio silk on the other spool. For
bass or windy days its a Granger 9053 with a DT 7 Sylk on a St Aidan (reel is overkill on backing capacity but weight balances rod nicely)

In the past it's been a 7' 2/2 for 4 Kusse. Rio ST DT4 on a 3" Dingley. This year the Kusse will share time with a Maxwell/Leonard 39DF-4 taper by
Chris Bogart, same reel and line.

Heddon Folsom 1510 8' 1.75 F. Just a great fishing rod. My third restoration project. Matched with an Orvis Battenkill BBS III and a 5WF line.
As has been said before, great rod to cast every day, and for $100 how can you beat it. John

Same here....mostly cruddy wet and cold. Snow would at least be pretty.
Mine hasn't changed in many years. A Jenkins GA-75, (usually) a Robichaud 3" Traditional Trout reel, and SA XPS DT5F. When I fish our freestoners I use a beater Hardy LRH. Why is it that I can boulder my way up these freestoners with barely a nick on my rod, but my reel always comes back looking like it's been dragged behind my car?

When the going gets tough...the tough turn pro! This isn't a job for just anything and that's why I pull out my ace-in-the hole---a Kusse Baby
Catskill paired with an A.F. Meisselbach Featherlight 250 reel.

Isn't it funny how 2 or 3 guys with the same rod throw different lines. Although dt7 and wf8 are pretty much the same. I have used DT lines for the most part for almost 30 years (some exceptions) liked the idea of reversing the line for economy but thinking about it don't think I've ever done it just got a new line every few seasons. Although I do find the fine taper on the sylk lines from cortland to allow using a heavier rod like that on some picky trout if you use a nice long leader. Amazing also how many cane guys use the good old corland peach (I have more of that line than any other) good line and they don't change it every 15 minutes........... I am also guessing that SLW and the other guys would consider all my reels beaters they are lubed to perfection, I change springs and pawls religiously.....but outside matches their owner a little worse for wear. I am jealous of the brown the rod and the reel..........I've squeaked in a few days this season but not had a bolt of light through the clouds by golly it's spring and the fish are hungry day yet.....yet |

Those who know me are most likely sick of hearing this. I have an FE Thomas Special, 8', 3/2, 5 weight that does everything I could ask of it. It's mated up to a 3-1/4 Bougle with a Cortland SYLK 5 weigh DT or a Wulff #5 DT depending on the tie of the year.
Rolf Brook Trout are God's way of reminding us everything is going to be alright. |
