1. The spool doesn't bind at all. It spins freely but I can tell that the spindle is angled some by how the spool spins off center. The clicker is loud and strong so I'm sure I should leave it alone but was wondering if it was o.k. to try and fix this.
2. The reel is all brass and has a heavy patina. Is there something I could soak this in to remove the patina and then polish the reel? There is a lot of grime under the spool and I would like to clean it up as much as possible. Should I even bother with removing the patina?
3. The handle is really loose on it's rivet. It appears that there was a collar of some sort on the base of the wood handle that is now missing that might have held the handle more securely. It spins freely but wobbles a lot. Is there a way to tighten this or to replace the rivet? Or again, should I leave it alone.
4. When I was inspecting the reel, I was tightening (very light pressure) the screw to replace the spool and the head fell off of the screw leaving the threaded part inside the spindle. I am fairly confident I can get this part out but is the screw something standard I can find at a quality hardware store?
Sorry for all of the questions but I am new to the classic reel thing. I started building rods less than two years ago and now the reel thing is starting to hit me.
Thanks for your help,
Greg
