How many rods did he make and during what years? Any contact number available? I tried his artist's website but everything I wrote came back.
Thanks,

Does anyone have any info on Arthur as a rodmaker? I know he's a fine artist and did the cover on the latest Stan Bogdan book. Is he still alive and living
in Maine? Does he still make rods? I have a beautiful rendition of a 209E that I found. First class.

Art has not made rods in many years. My guess is he started in the mid to late 1970's, stopped mid to late 80's. He probably made around 40-50
total. I have seen a few and they were all nice and fairly different from one another. He is getting up there in age and I have heard he has slowed down a
bit. He used to Winter in Fl. and come back to Maine in April. I have numbers for both residences. I'll have to dig them up when I get home. Please send me
a PM if I forget. I also have an old tackle list he put out. It might have info on his rods but I'm not sure.

Gentlemen,
I just got off of the phone with Arthur. I mentioned that there were some inquiries regarding him, his rods and his artwork. He still lives in Maine and is doing as well as can be expected for someone in their early 80's. He told me that he built a total of 34 rods between the late 1960's and early 1980s', and has done some restoration work over the years. He no longer builds or repairs rods. His tapers were from rods he borrowed and copied the tapers or from tapers he got from from Marty Keane. A lot were taken from FE Thomas rods which he said were his favorite. He put in a plug for his friend Steve Campbell of the Thomas Rod Co. for anyone who wanted a rod of his repaired. Arthur's first love was and still is sporting art. He is very well known in this arena and he is still somewhat active. He asked me not to publish his address or phone number but that if anyone was interested in contacting him to do it thru me. Bob |

Hi folks,
Talked to Arthur today. He's 84. Haven't made rods since '82-83. Nice gentleman. Made total of 37-38 rods or so. Mine's first class, I'm sure the others are too. Concentrating on his artwork now. Thanks for your help everyone. Trout120

Paul,
My rod built by Arthur is an 8' 2/1 6wt. He told me that Arch Walker asked him to build the rod for him, which he did. And that after Arch Walkers death the rod was purchased back by Arthur. I saw it many years ago when visiting Arthur and told him that if he ever was going to sell it to let me know, and he did last year. It is signed by Arthur and marked "CUSTOM MADE FOR ARCH WALKER". It also has the following markings on one flat which Arthur doesn't remember what they stood for H-84-18 W-11-T . It also has full intermediate wraps. I will try to post a picture tomorrow. Bob |

Hi Bob,
Mine reads Arthur Taylor and underneath and on the 1 tip is H- 79 -2. He thought it might have meant 1979 - February. The H he couldn't remember. Can you post a picture for me? Will send to your other address. Thanks, Paul |

Hi Bob, H-84-18 stood for "Hollow Built-Made in 1984-18th rod made".
I'm not sure about the W-11-T. I haven't seen that on any of his rods. He often wrote the line weight on his rods, but that obviously isn't it. Arthur wrapped his hollow built rods with intermediate wraps. H-79-2 would have been the 2nd rod, built in 1979, and was hollow built as well. I have handled many of Arthur's rods, and own the 8 1/2' 8wt Nova Scotia Special depicted in many of Arthur's art, as well his last rod, #37, an 8' 3pc, 5/6wt. Steve |

Thanks Steve. Thanks and great rod Bob!
Steve, it's great knowing it's hollow built, but without the intermediate wraps. Guess he wanted the complete Garrison look on the shaft. It's the closest Garrison look I've ever seen other than Hoagy's work. Thanks again, Paul |
