My main target for research is hard evidence in the form of catalogues (Heaton's and their customers) and literature mentioning the company or its products, as I believe that hard evidence is the platform for any theory and not vice versa. Also I would like pictures of any reel or product with the company name stamped on it, including anything Heaton-like in design, even if you think it is a common model or item which I will have seen a hundred times before. Because of the vast variety of products made by or contributed too by Heaton's, I collect thousands of images of reels and products from all manner of sources my research. These items are slowly building into a database of Heaton and possible Heaton products, and anyone who has been invloved in recent posts will know the significance of this as Heaton's made for and worked with hundreds of companies.
As mentioned before one area of weakness is the US, Canada and S Africa, so I would welcome any information from these countries. (thanks again to those who have helped with this one so far). Unfortunately we are not as well documented as Hardy's in terms of men and products, so my job is made all the more difficult for that, but I hope that with your help I can answer many questions and shed some light on other threads for members as well. I intend to mention to all who assist in the book, but will completely understand the veiws of anyone who wishes to remain anonymous, and will not reproduce any information given without prior approval.
Other associated companies and individuals include;
Smith & Wall
W. H. Ryder
Haywood (Mary)
D Slater
Malloch
Hardy's (earliest possible prior to making their own reels etc) Not the Perfect, I think that one is theirs
Allcocks (earlier the better)
Any British tackle company between 1850 and 1880
Here is the fronticpiece that I am using for the cover of the book. It is the picture used for the front of the catalogues in the late 1870's to 1880's period. Enjoy.
