Since I fish mostly larger flies, my current favorite is an Andy Barr penta 8' 7 wt "Windigo" model. Action is kind of hard to describe, more of
a strong parobolic type. Great rod for night fishing with large dries and hair bugs. The rod is being restored at this time, and I plan to post pictures of it
as soon as I get it back.

For the four years I have owned it, my 7'9" Jennings 4/5 wt is my most fished rod because it performs well on both Midwest/PA spring creeks as well as
Rocky Mountain back country streams. I fish it most often with a 3" South Creek reel loaded with either an SA WF4 or a DT5 Phoenix silk line. When
smallmouth season kicks into gear then my 8'3" 5/6 wt Sweetgrass rod built especially for smallies paired with a Ross CLA reel gets a lot of use.

Favorite is an 8' 4-wt Gary Howells matched with a vintage Bill Adams reel with Orvis wt4 line. Delicate enough for small flies yet with enough power for
smaller streamers when needed. It won't be long now. Had enough of this Winter!

Here's my "go to" cane rod for the vast majority of the fishing that I do (trout):
with my #1 "go to" fly:
It's based off of a Payne 102 taper built by Jeff Pope... here's what I usually fish the rest of the time:
I have this paired with an nice little Cortland Crown II I love them both... |

8' 6'' 5/6wt with a well broken in 1494. Cortlands 333 Pro works well with it.
(Yeah, I know it´s not an "at work" pic´, but it´s my current "to go" setup anyhow).

A Heddon Model 10, 8ft, 1 3/4f. I have lots of Heddons, including a couple Model 50, but this one feels like it was just made for me. Match it with an orvis
CFO III.

Payne 8' 201 It was one of the rods that felt perfect for me right from the start. Built by Mike Brooks. I could go to the river just to cast the rod for
fun, a few fish is a nice bonus. I like to use my Hardy Bougle 3 1/4" Reel on this rod.

bobbeegee wrote:The reel part is easy, it would be one of several Hardy's that I own. The rod part is tough, although it would be bamboo. I think the answer all depends upon the situation/conditions in which I am fishing. Early season, or season's end, in cold water where I'm nymphing I would have to chose one of two Battenkills depending upon the size of the water I was exploring. Spring/summer time I love the 8' Thramer Payne 5 weight, or if I think I might fish wets and want to punch line through a breeze, I'd probably pick my 7 1/2' Pickard Dickerson 5 weight. If it were late summer, or I found myself on a headwater Catskill brook, I'd probably be fishing a 7 1/2' Weiler Leonard 5 weight, or maybe a Lee Orr 7' 4 weight, or maybe even a Thramer 6' 8" FE Thomas Fairy 3 weight. So it all depends..... Ed |

A rendition by Lew Parks of a Dickerson 801512-5wt Hollow Butt, paired with a Godfrey Classic 306 Reel lined with an Airflow DT-4. A sweet combination for our Western rivers.

Interesting question, last year my "go to" combination was a Dave Norling's 7'9" 4 wt with a Hardy Bougle Lightweight III reel lined
with a Rio ST II DT. I've picked a couple of rods since the trout season closed at the end of September, it will be interesting to see what rod I reach for
most this year. The Norling is such a sweet rod for swinging wets/soft hackles that it will be hard to knock it out of it's "go to" status. My
guess is that I will have two favorite rods, a favorite 7'9" rod and a favorite 7'6" and under rod.

My go to rod would have to be a (clone) Martha Marie 5wt with a 3" Saracione MK-I reel spooled up with DT-5 XPS, and then it would have to be a F.E.
Thomas 6' 8" 3wt with a Robichaud 2.8 and Phoenix Silk.
