Although the winding check looks incorrect the ferrules, seat and rolled script look like Wright and Mcgill trade rod. Hopefully someone else can help.

I concur.
The South Bend ferrules I've seen are marked with 3 lateral bands on the female ferrules, whether they're hand-welted or have rolled welts. The Granger, W&M, Phillipson female ferrules have 2 lateral bands, and are always hand-welted, with that angled flare around the rim. I've never seen that maroon plastic and knurled brass down-locking reel seat on any rods except for the Colorado cane trade rods made by Wright & McGill or DeBell.

The ferrules and wc mark it as having Colorado roots and the signature was done by the same person who marked my W&McG Favorite. or at least used the same
stamps.

It looks exactly like my Challenger (Wright and McGill trade rod). Wrap color, ferrules, reel seat, and grip; all the exact same.

Here's a pic of a 8040 True Action Thoroughbred by the Old Faithful Rod Co. (W&M). I think the rod in question is Old Faithful.

Bob, the guy has the original tube (I think, cause its a black fiberboard tube like the one posted by Firehole with his Old Faithful, but there's not label
unfortunately. Todd

Definately not SB ferrules. I concur with Old Faithful. The stamp is consistent. DeBell and Bob and Betty also used the same or very similar stamp. i.e
"Pioneer"

It's definitely an Old Faithful Rod with an unusual name. Probably later in the W&M history. Note that the name is a combination of two Granger rod
names "DeLuxe" and "Favorite". Probably so that the cheap SOBs that made these rods didn't have to buy a separate rubber stamp. Rod
makers are a notoriously "thrifty" lot, but W&M was, well, more thrifty than the rest. Remember that the Old Faithful rods were made out of the
rod sections that GG used to burn at the end of the week....story is that this practice nearly sent the W&M people into apoplexy when they discovered this
little Granger tradition, and so was born "Old Faithful Rod Company" to wring every last nickel out of the factory.

The Old Faithful Rod Co rod | #12 | ||
|
Like others have said, this rod says Old Faithful Rod Co in all ways. Grip, cork reelseat, Granger ferrules, wraps, strip guide looks like a perfection too. Node spacing and cane color. If you can use the rod buy it if less than 300- The same stamps were used on the W & M Granger rods the "Deluxe" and the "Favorite" and one thing we have not speculated on or given much thought to is the interesting stamp. My thought also ran to employee rod as the Old Faithful Rod Co rods lettering was quite different in size and typeface.Everything else says Old Faithful That's my nickels worth from the pictures. As always "You really don't know until the rod is in your hands and sometimes then you still don't know " Best,Paul |
