Has anyone ever seen one? I know the company started with this reel. But I can't find any reference for one.
Thanks!~

Scott PowR-Ply Fly Reel | #1 | ||
|
I have photos of two of Harry Wilson's PowR-Ply fly reels that were shared with me by Jim Adams of Berkeley, CA. I have read that the Scott reels were
designed by Harry in the early 1960s and had a drag that could be backed off immediately, similar to the design feature offer in the Swedish fly reel designed
and made by Bengt Mörner. When I first learned of these reels, I contacted Larry Kenney who was Harry's first employee and later became a partner in the
Scott Rod business. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe Larry explained to me that the term "PowR-Ply" came from the fact that the drag
could be applied immediately when needed. Perhaps this is another way of describing the reel's ability to instantly change from a set drag to near free
spool and then back. The company name, of course, comes from Harry's son, Scott.
Both reels in the photographs are possibly prototypes but share the same round drag knob located at the spool's center. The two reels are also quite different in appearance, one of them having a solid plate on the crank side sporting a serpentine handle with dual Delrin handles. The opposite side has the drag knob with the non-perforated spool exposed. I believe this is Jim's personal reel and the other reel shown in the photos was sold to a customer. This other reel has a single handle mounted directly to a perforated spool and a release knob centered on the opposite side with what looks like an exposed spool. Both reels are black and silver in color and have screwed pillars. I believe Jim knows quite a bit of the history on Harry's fly reels. I will contact him to see if he has photos of the Scott reels that can be posted for everyone to see. Rick
