Anyone know for sure when that production began?

It was always my understanding that the Duracane models didn't start at Leonard until about 1972. An auction on the unmentionable site has one that the
seller states he bought directly from the shop in the mid sixties.
Anyone know for sure when that production began? gofish |

I was told (IIRC) that the first generation green wrap Duracanes were circa 1969 - at least the one I own. I know by 75, they were wrapped in browns and
looked quite different. Mid 60's sounds early to me, but I can't answer your question with authority....... but I'm curious what boardmembers might
know/remember......

That's what I recall also, as stated above. Never have I heard of a prefire, but the butt cap on this rod denotes a prefire rod.
Could this have been the first? Maybe a prototype? Note the HK wrap too. It's not the usual solid one. It looks legit to me though. Trout120

The Spring Special 1974 issue of FFM refers to the Leonard Duracanes as "recently developed."

Kind of what I remember, and the '70's catalogs, as you stated, kind of bear that out. gofish |

FWIW, I bought my 7' 4wt in the spring of '72. I remember debating, (with myself) buying it for at least a year prior to my placing the order. I'm
guessing they were announced in '70. Shipping may have started in '71 or '72.

Duracane rods were made to fill the niche left by the elimination of the Mills line. There were no pre-fire Duracanes.
