Wright & McGill Value |
Lead | ||
|
I am in the process of trying to buy a Wright and McGill rod from a Estate and was wanting to know its value. It is a 3oz, 7' rod with a extra tip. I am
guessing that it was made in the early 30's and comes in the orginal tube and cloth. I is a victory rod model 7030. The guy used it 10 times and caught 5
fish with it. The eyelets are all orginal as far as the metal and lacing goes. It is a bamboo rod with steel tubing on the ends where they slide together.
The guy I am buying it from is 89 years old and his father bought it new. This thing is beautiful. He is asking quite a bit for the rod, and I am not sure if
it is worth what he is asking. Can anybody give me a ball park figure on the rod? Thanks for your help.

Great 4 wt taper. My guess would be $1000 to $1200 but thats a guess if it is in really great shape. I paid more for the one I currently have but its a
special and it was just prior to the recent economic downturn. Good rods seem to be holding more of their value than the stocks I own though.....and you
can't fish with stocks...... great rod I'd sell you a kidney before I sold you mine......

Wright & McGill did not take over the "Granger" company until 1946 so the rod is no older than that. I'd agree with Marty's valuation on
the rod, however, all bets are off in this economy. Check your pm.

I have to agree with Drew (tedgolden).
$750-$850 for a nice, original 7030 Wright & McGill Victory is about right in this market. Regards, Flyman

Interesting spread of opinions. There is a WM special on the sight that must not be named that sounds in similar condition.... interesting to see the final
number....(and of course begs the question of special value relative to victory) $200ish??
In the victory the fiber tube and label in good condition mean a bit.. Have to agree that market is very squirrly right now. If I had a shot at a 7030 with good tube label bag etc in little/ un used condtion. Anything under $900 is a steal and I'd jump hard and fast but I love Grangers and have been told on more than one occasion I overpaid but within reason all I care about is fishing a great rod that I like.......If you can live with the price and need one of the great 4wt tapers go for it. Life is too short for cheap scotch and plastic rods.

The only 7030 I see on the site in question is an Aristocrat, which is more desirable, IMO, than the Victory grade.
It's currently above $650 with many days yet to go. Regards again, Flyman

Yep you are right it is an aristocrat and I agree 100% more desirable than a victory but in 7030 even victories don't show up all that often ....I had
special on the brain as I just recieved one today....(9050) Specials are my personal favorite just like that green...... now what I really want is a
1062......swinging a brace of wets......
Life is too short for cheap scotch and plastic rods.

At least $1000. M.W. Reynolds just posted the sale of a really nice W&M Victory 7030 which was priced $1250.

I'm with Firehole. $1000+. It's a scarce rod, excellent caster and an in-demand length. Gangers are very fine rods with pleasing casting
characteristics, IMO.
