Can't remember exactly where the stamps were, but I think the winchester stamp was on the butt cap, and The signature was in the normal spot on the butt bamboo near the hook keeper.
EW Edwards, in flowing script.
I didn't keep any pictures.

Don't know who bought the rod, but I don't think it was Len. Can't remember exactly where the stamps were, but I think the Winchester stamp was on the butt cap, and the signature was in the normal spot on the butt bamboo near the hook keeper. EW Edwards, in white flowing script, ala his own rods. I didn't keep any pictures. gofish |

Some follow up pics for anyone who is interested....
I did have some questions about the Winchester decal and ferrule welts. Were Winchester decals placed over wraps? Do the ferrule welts look slightly different or is it my eyes playing tricks on me? It is a cool rod and somewhere around a 4/5 wt. I have not had a chance to cast it yet but it might have a slight tendancy towards a 5. To me, this rod screams of Eustis' work. I'd appreciate any feedback the experts may have. Thanks. Matt

Matt,
It's probably a version of a 6165 or 6166. I can't get closer than that because the ones I've seen (or have photos of) all have hookkeepers in the center of the second wrap up from the winding check... and there's always a narrow brown wrap in the center of the pongee where the keeper sits. But that area may have been rewrapped on your rod given that your rod doesn't appear from the photos to have that feature. And the sticker does look a bit funky in its placement. It's not a 6173 because those usually came with a unique tip top that Winchester called a "Roto-ring," and yours is agate. Again I'm assuming the tips are originals. A little difficult to tie down closer, but a beautiful rod. Given the lack of a model stamp on the reelseat, and its intermediates, it's probably very early 20s. But with Winchester--particularly these unstamped versions--it's always a "maybe." |

Thanks pcg. I believe the wrap that would have held the HK has been replaced as have many of the wraps. It is amazing that all of the cane is there and
seemingly intact. I think it needs the ferrules reset and some cosmetic work but that's not bad for a 80+ year old rod.

Just to add that I posted a bit and some pics under the "collecting " column of an unaltered #6163 7ft Winchester/Edwards. Early rod no Winchwester
decal, marked butt cap 6163 overall weight about 2 1/2 oz. Take a look at the pics. Best,Paul
