Rod roll | #21 | ||

Ever since I met Greg Reynolds and saw how neat and classy he stored his Orvis rods in the carrier that he has I have been interested in owning one. I would
suggest a khaki or darker tan heavy fabric like a canvas with the dark leather would be attractive and functional.

I took and original Orvis rod roll I purchased from a board member and copied the design.<<<<Montymontana
Riddle me this batman. How did you spend over $5000 to develop something you just admitted was a copy? |

I think it looks good Monty. The leather is much better than the originals.
The Orvis rolls are scarce--it took me about six years to find one in each size, one of which is in rough shape. For what it's worth, the fabric on the originals is used by the automotive industry for convertable tops. It's durable and cleans nicely if needed.
My wife and daughters have a less polite term for "neat and classy" Bill...

Chartist, Hopefully you sank that money into the collectibles that are prepared to skyrocket(per your recent blather). . Your clear ignorance as to what it
takes to source either totally new or resurrect older products speaks more loudly than your pride in your research or the money you spent this year. (sourcing
and having PL products made is one of the primary things I do for a living) If you don't like it don't buy it.
Monty I second the ignore the nay-sayers said previously. This is yet another great product lost to corporate "improvements" that deserves to be available again. Life is too short for cheap scotch and plastic rods.

whoa, something is rotten in Denmark here.....First, Greg, that's a darn nice Orvis rod roll you have there.....But second, I am no attorney, but I can
almost guarantee this will end up in patent court. Monty's design is way too close to that of Orvis'......Plus it's so close, except for the
fabric, that there's no way one could spend over $5K in development cost. If I were an investor up to this point, first I'd be worried Orvis would come
knocking and second, I'd want to see a complete accounting of the project costs to date.
Sorry if this ruffles feathers but this doesn't pass the smell test. |

Even if it was, patents expire in 17 years. There are many knock-offs of the "Gokey" duffle, which in fact is a J.W. Hulme design. |

The first real question here is how dose Greg keep his fishing SUV so clean and tidy ?
This photo must have been touched up with photoshop. Monty thanks for the effort that went into making this happen.

Looks great, a very needed item. I'll wait for a copycat version,,,probably for $119.00 made in Saipan. Think it over Monty. How many of these are you
gonna sell at $300 plus? Much as I admire your efforts, I won't be on your buy list.

Chartist1,
I agree. Since you spent $15,000 on fly gear last year, that proves you do more research than anyone else

Monty, it looks great and would likely have a market with all flyfishers, not just the cane crew.

Sorry Monty,
but to say the truth 310$ is simply to much. What will happen is that maybe 10 forum member will buy and after this it will stop. If I would have one of the
originals Orvis rolls like this one from Greg Reynols as a sample and get
a order for 25 pc. I could sell them for 150-170$ exact copy with a bag for every tube. If necessary with some
Improvements but I thing Greg Reynols Orvis roll is perfect like it is
made from convertable top fabric. Sorry to say that but there are to much people involved who would like to make
some $ to hold the price low you have to make them your self.

I will have one, (won't I Monty). I have seen the original that he has and have to have one.The leather just sets it off so keep it. If you where just
selling them on this board that some led to, you may not sell a lot, but we both know there are a lot of shows we both attend that they would sell at. As for
golf bag. I have thought of having a golf club cart or what ever they call them with wheels that would hold a half doz. rods strung up so so I would have just
the right rod for diff. sections of the river. That was to much work, so I got a drift boat instead.

I like the look of that - but I have a Bean Maine Guide Waxed Cotton 2 piece Rod case, which is a very substantial bit of kit, and I took 4 rods in it to
Argentina with other stuff in the side pockets - and the thing cost $89. Its not as interesting in your rod roll - but it only cost $89.
