First, that the Granger story cannot be told without including Wright & McGill's rod story and that of the Phillipson Rod & Tackle Co.
Second, that if I'm going that far I might as well go ahead and assemble a book that will expand and improve on Colorado Classic Cane which Dick Spurr and I co-authored in 1990/91
Third, that if I'm going to try to do it right, I'm going to need a LOT of help. (That's a given, considering the vast amount of information that must be assembled and organized.)
I am very proud and excited to announce that our very own Gnome, Jeff Hatton, has graciously agreed to be my partner in this massive project. Jeff brings a true love and excitement for history, bamboo rods and all things Colorado to the project as well as his experience in writing. His fine book Rod Crafting has set a new standard for rod maker histories. We hope to merge the concepts of Colorado Classic Cane and Rod Crafting to bring a more visually exciting angle to the story of the Colorado rod makers.
We are determined to make this the definitive book, historically and visually, for the classic Colorado rod companies. We'll do our best on the modern makers as well, but their history is still being written and we hope it will be many years before the final chapters can be documented.
Here's how you can help! We are beginning by asking - nay, pleading - for help from folks who collect Colorado made bamboo rods. We've got Granger and Wright & McGill pretty well covered.
I need to hear from those who own rods by Aladdin Rod Co, Old Faithful Rod Co, Phillipson, Arend, DeBell, Sisty, Del Canty, Pioneeer (Bob's Tackle Shop / Paul Hightower) Johnson Rods. If you have any paper collectibles (advertisements and catalogs) regarding these companies, we'd sure like to hear from you about that, too. At the very least, you'll get a credit in the book and the undying thanks from the authors.
CATALOGS ANYONE? Dana? Jerry Girard? are you fellows out there?
Please direct all information to me, Michael Sinclair, at Paducahmichael@aol.com
We're looking forward to hearing from you!
