For me there's just something about the aluminum tube. They just scream Bamboo Fly Rod. I think if I walked into a room and saw 18 cordura and plastic tubes, lined up, and 2 aluminum tubes. I'd say WOW there's 2 Boo rods in here, I want to see them.
I even like the humble tube tube my H & I is packed in. On one occasion I got a rod sans tube (i call them naked). Had to get an aluminum tube right away to make it complete.
For what it's worth many collectibles carry a premium if there in the original packaging. |

Always the innovator, and keeping in-step with his futuristic, industrial strength-looking ways, Bill Phillipson's quadrate Dry Fly Special
tube is just that, special ...

Back to the original FET tube... During his three year Filbert St run, Edwards used identical tubes, except in N/S instead of brass.
Gnome! Whooooooa! Are you familiar with carvings by Gauguin? If not check some out. You are channeling! |

Montys and HIs - they carry their tubes well. I'll post a Monty tube shortly - those labels are too fragile...
Bill Phillipson always did things his own way - whatta tube! Ohhh- the Edwards rod deserves the tube - BEAUTIFUL... NB |

Have any of you heard of using a tubular shrink wrap similar to what is on new cork but larger in diameter to preserve labels on classic rod tubes? Kathy and
Mike at South Creek Ltd. shared this with me recently. If so, does anyone know where a guy could obtain such a product? Jerry

I made all my tubes by hand. For me they are a special part of any of my rods because they will take care of them for a long time.
Also when I designed them aesthetics were a very important pursuit, because they must be able to express the soul of their contains.

Wow Marcello beautiful tubes! Understated classy elegant.... I am continually amazed by the level of craftsmanship displayed by today's rodmakers. It is
a thing of beauty to see so many talented men standing and spitting in the face of mass production. I think a good argument could be made that we are in the
middle of another golden age..........
Life is too short for cheap scotch and plastic rods.
