Posts: 1 03/28/2009 21:45	Tags : None Hello all; I've been enjoying reading this board for a while, and I have a question about a couple rods I found today while poking in the corner of an antique shop. The first is a Heddon 7'6". "featherweight" is written on the rod, although the sales tag says "bluewater". Its a 2-2 all pieces full length although the tiptops do not match. One is a std wire fly rod top, the other is an agate. It has a white plastic ivory looking reel seat. Original bag in a Heddon tube minus the cap. One wrap has a loose end and a ferrule may be a very little loose. Marked at 150, I am thinking this might make a good fisher with very little work and dickering. But is bluewater compatable with featherweight as a model? The other rod looks to be a well made 3-2 9'. The only inscription is "tested and certified" and 10.00. The signature wraps (if they are) are 5 thin red wrap with 4 thin gold in between.. Again all full length and a replaced tip-top (a bait rod top on one). The wraps are good, a slight set in one tip.. An aluminum reel reat with side rail groves. No bag in a black fiber board tube. Marked at 125. Any thoughts to maker on such limited info? I am not likely to get pictures in the shop. I'll be building a rod in class this summer, this will be an intrim/backup - A bit in need of detail maybe, but what thoughts may the experiened of the board have. Posts: 1975 03/28/2009 23:09 Registered User	If in fact the tips are both full length, and look to be the same as the butt, i.e., that they came with the rod, the Featherweight is a solid "buy it now". The rod, in really nice shape would be $750+, and just fixed up as you indicated it needs to be, would be a great fishing rod. However, as always, really check it over before you buy it, and remember this advice is worth about what it cost you. I have no opinion on the 2nd rod. Good Luck gofish

Posts: 507 03/30/2009 09:11	Jump on the Heddon... any of the individual sections in nice shape is worth $150.00+! Swapping out the non-original (the agate is job is not original) tip top is an easy job. Heddon did make a Bluewater (Mod. # 10) Featherweight. It should have the rod info on the shaft (model, length, ferrule size, line weight) if not refinished. If nothing else, you'll have a fine fishpole. Rod 2 could be anything. Pics would surely help. Posts: 258 03/30/2009 09:59 Sic transit piscatoria Clark's	I will also thrown my two cents in...the Heddon will be an awesome fishing tool and that price is outstanding. If you ask for a discount many antique stores/malls automatically discount 10% on higher ticket items so you may even get it cheaper. As mentioned, check it carefully for repairs, damage, etc. but at that price I just don't see you going wrong. Welcome to the Board! -- Dr. Todd

If you look in the rod building and restoration forum, you'll see I have given the Heddon a new home and posted some pics there. I went over it with a magnifying glass at the shop and found no damage beyond what I saw the first look. Thanks for the advice Dr Todd, not being new to antiquing I played up the issues and got closer to 20 percent off. The varnish is in great condition, the cork needs a cleaning and then with the guide wrapped up I expect to have it on a local stream very soon. Thanks Rick

What he can make out on one of them is South Beach Bait Company, Quality Tackle Split Bamboo, Mayflower Japan, the other one has Crown Split Bamboo fishing kit by Fishing Experts. If you have any information on these, we would certainly appreciate you forwarding them to me.
