I have been thinking of ordering a 6'3" 3 pc Wagner for small stream fishing and hike-in brookie fishing. Anyone know what Jeff's small rods are
like, and what do you think of his signature rods in general? Thanks

Jeff's Signature rods are simply beautiful and extremely well made. The few I have seen and casts were outstanding. I have handled his 6'3" 3/4
wt. and thought it was a great small stream rod; much like the Midge interpretations I have cast, but maybe finer tips and a little more sensitive up close.
His 7'3" 4/5 wt. is a wonderful, full flexing taper that is very fun to fish. I know you didn't ask about longer rods, but he has a great 8 ft. 4
wt. taper. Someone on this board has a 6.5 ft 2 wt. (?) and mentioned good things (maybe in the small stream rods thread a while back).

Jeff Wagner's Signature rods have the finest finish anywhere. Every rod, even the Patriots, are flawlessly constructed. Jeff and Casimira are great people
to work with. (Can you tell I'm a happy customer?)

I have two of Jeff's rods. A 7'6" 3/2 5wt. and a 6'6" 2/2 2wt. I can attest to the excellent craftsmanship as well as the fine
attention to detail. I do not believe you will find a truly more beautiful rod from a builder on a more consistent basis than Jeff and Casmira. Their wraps
and varnish jobs pay an extremely fine attention to detail. The real bonus is that these rods cast and fish as good as they look. I'll be taking the 2wt.
up to the mountains tommorow to do a little Brookie fishing. If you purchase one of their rods you will not be disappointed.

I own four of Jeff's rods. Nothing shorter than 7'3", so I can't attest to the shorter of his rods. I can tell that the four rods I own, as
noted by others above, are among the finest crafted bamboo rods made, now or in any generation. Also, his tapers are among the best. The 7'3" quad I
received from Jeff about 6 months ago is very similar in action to the 7' Carlson I own. The 7'6" mortised hex is likewise similar to the Thomas
and Thomas Fountainhead I own. That rod, a mortised rod from the T&T special series, is the finest mortised rod I have ever seen, but Jeff's rod is
right there. Jeff's varnish and silk work are first rate. And, he is the nicest guy. Finally, if he gives you an estimate of when the rod willl be
done, you can count on it being done within days of his projected date. All in all, he is among the best for a number of reasons. I have a fifth on order, a
3/2 quad in a 7'6" length, 4 wt, that I have asked him to build using a medium brown/caramel bamboo, with wraps similar to Garrison, shiny hardware,
and a rattan grip. Should be cool! Ric

Hey everyone! Casimira and I had a wonderful weekend in the shop. Yesterday we glued a bunch of quads(including yours, Paxlev) and today I was working on them and decided to come in and check the email. Our friend Paxlev brought this thread to our attention and as Casimira was in the kitchen cooking up her fantastic buttermilk chicken I read her off all of your wonderful posts about our rods. It really made our day, and thanks so much to everyone for your kindness. I was having a great day as is- it was a nice day here(although they are calling for 6" of snow tomorrow) and I got to work on some rods with Ellington playing in the shop. It doesn't get much better than this!
The specific 3 piece rod that creakycane asked about has a special significance to me as it was the first batch of rods I made as a full time professional. That rod came as a result of collaborating with customers at a local flyshop that wanted a 3 piece version similar to an outstanding(magical might be a better word) rod made by Bob Summers. After much fidgeting and trial, I came up with this taper and it's been well received over the years. We've made about 18 rods in this particular three piece taper. Ed Engle had some kind words for this rod in his book Splitting Cane. Thanks again everyone, and if we can answer any questions please feel free to contact us. We will also soon be posting an immediately available 6'5" 3-4 wt quad 2. piece Signature which will be done in about 3 weeks best-casimira and jeff www.wagnerrods.com |

I too fished the above mentioned rod while at Jeff's rod building class this past summer. It is a must have in my opinion. Never have I felt so connected
to the stream as I did with that stick in my hand! Other than the rod Jeff and Casimira are great people to deal with and both my father and I highly recommend
them!
