If you are making plans to do some fishing in the Park this summer [ especially in the Lamar Valley ] and are the type of fellow that doesn't mind a little
company - I would love to hear from you.

Bob,
The road from West to Canyon will be closed Aug 17 which means you'll have to reroute along Yellowstone Lake and up to the Lamar. You can figure on 4 hours to get up there. The Lamar and Soda Butte won't be prime until after July 15th with current snowpack which is now 100-110%. If you're in the area and I'm not working email me and we can get together like last year on the Gallatin. Dennis

I will be there June 18 - 28. I have a fishing partner the first part of the trip but should be free the last four or five days.

SS .
We previously discussed getting together and I just received my work schedule it looks good to get together from the 24th-28th. If Bob can make it during that time maybe we can get together and go down the Madison(6-26) in my drift boat if the flow isn't too heavy and running brown plus I like 3 in the boat for stability. How does that sound guys(SS & Bob)? There is one catch email me or PM for particulars. Dennis

I'm around June through September (about a mile from Firehole). Drop a note if you feel like chasing some Harriman Ranch rainbows or wandering around the
Madison in or out of the park.

Bob,
Eric knows the Ranch like the back of his hand. Good guy to connect with. At some point during the summer Nelson Ishiyama is possibly going to have a bamboo get together at the Henry's Fork Lodge which he owns. Last year Per Brandin was there and along with many other cane people. Everybody had a terrific time and Nelson is a great host. Something else to think about. Dennis |

firehole wrote:Thanks, Dennis, I think, however, that it's fair to say I know the Ranch pretty well as far as those sections that an old fat guy can get to without too much strain. That said, I also think I get my fair share of (stupid) fish. :-) EP |

Eric,
We all need stupid fish. You may might want to think about having your rood shoveled again. It snowing like crazy at an inch an hour with 18" of new snow since Sat. We're now under a Winter Storm Warning for another 12" by tomorrow and another big storm coming in Thursday & Friday. Dennis |

Bob,
Sent you a PM, I live in Jackson not far from the Park and am always interested and fishing. Dennis...that goes for you as well. I am guessing your getting the same snow on the other side of the range! 7ft in 7days here. Flows should be great this year as were now well over average snowpack. CR |

so instead for flying into bozeman and going down to west yellowstone like I have been doing the last few years I should go back to my earlier plan and fly
into billings and stay in silvergate? or it might be a good year to go to plan c and head to missoula and fish rock creek? I have been wanting to do that but
couldn't pull myself away from yellowstone. Sound like flying into cody and hanging out at the Lake Hotel might work.. (love that place)

Prior to my sons graduation from Highschool, I'd like to take him to Yellowstone. Can anyone point me in the right direction as far as a good book to plan a trip by?

If you're just looking for fishing information, you could do worse than The Yellowstone Fly Fishing Guide by Craig
Mathews and Clayton Molinero ($16.95) or Fishing Yellowstone National Park by Richard Parks ($17.95) but there really
is an almost bottomless pit of information available either on the Internet or by tactful inquiry through boards like this one.

US-212 Construction | #17
|
BW,
There will be construction in the Cooke City/Silvergate area on US-212 (Beartooth Hwy.) as well. Last year, it was not too bad. Uinta and I stayed in Silvergate (late Aug/early Sept) and made early morning trips into Cooke City without a long wait. As a matter of fact, the waits would have been minimal if Bob would have refrained from hitting on the sign crew ladies! The Wolves of Lamar Valley | #18
|
We will be traveling all through Colorado and Wyoming on our way to Yellowstone and the Lamar Valley this Summer. We will be staying at the Slough Creek
Camp Ground around the week of August 10th. I'm looking forward to hiking as far up the Slough Creek as possible. We hope to see (or hear) the Wolves of
Lamar Valley. This will be a good time to try out my new F.E. Thomas taper, 7' 3wt. It was made for me on a Mark Fitch blank by Stonefly Custom Fly Rods
here in New Mexico...............KERMIT

Tackle for Slough | #19 | ||
|
K…Nice rod and I hope you have a great trip up Slough but I would suggest a bit longer/heavier rod for Slough than a 7' 3 wt. Having fished it for a
couple decades…I know the water and the fish, and frankly IMHO you may be able to hook them, but I suggest that you will stress the fish (important) and
possibly your rod (less important). An 8' 5 wt should do the trick and I sometimes go even larger to stay out of the water and just fish from the banks.
Think about it. I'll miss you...mid-July and again in mid-Sep for me. McF.
