Downloading is slow as a snail.
Too bad it's a Windows .exe file. I wished they just made a plain & simple PDF... |

I downloaded the catalog tonight but the .exe will not open. I get an error message that says this is not a valid win32 application. Anyone experience this
and have any insights?

My CD catalog arrived yesterday. The file for day one is 95MB and won't run on my computer, that after perhaps a dozen attempts. Day two (85MB) will run
but I have to allow about 5 minutes for it to load before I can attempt it, otherwise it will lock up in Adobe 9.1 . There is a second disc for DVD play on
home TV but it doesn't seem to have been formatted for TV since about 10% of the right edge of the image is cut off. Navigation through that disc is
laborious. I haven't contacted the Ganungs yet but will send them a note, though I'm sure I won't be the first to do so.
All that aside, there are some once-in-a-lifetime buying opportunities in the Keane collection and I anticipate some good bids on paper items. There are almost no pre-1900 rods from Keane, and only a handful of early rods from anyone else. I haven't counted the modern rods but there's a decent mix of all makers there. I'd like to say it will be a fun auction but it's almost too clinical for me, being an avid auction goer. We'll know when the smoke clears in a few weeks. |

OK I figured out why the file would not open. It had not downloaded completely. Somehow the download was interrupted. So i tried again and it failed again.
now the site says I have reached my maximum download attempts.
My computer is brand new and more than capable of handling this download and it was over a high speed connection. very frustrating! |

Caddisfli,
Work your way into the network card configuration and make sure it's not set to allow the system to power it down when not in use. Even though it is streaming data, it will time out and power down. When we going fishing??

Langs posted over on the ORCA site that the online catalog will be available about ten days before the auction and that it hopes to post the discovery auction
lots as well.

I received a very fast reply from Langs with an alternate way to download the file. I will try it when I get home and let you know how it goes.

Walt, When I found such a handsome photograph of B. F. Nichols, 1897. Why put up an ugly photograph of your decrepit self, when Mr. Nichols looks so good.

Swallowed my pride and coughed up the $6.99 for the download. It took less than five minutes on a T1 line. The *.exe file is a Zip File that unpacks to
several PDF's. The Friday and Saturday files are long but can be sent as individual files, if you have the time and email capacity. The PDF files are
composed of each auction item (two or more images each) on its own PDF page (again separable and sendable). Not really any more detail or description than in
the old style printed catalogs.
Will still miss the ability to handle the items as in the past. RP |

Jim Schottenham was good enough to respond to my email to Lang's. He forwarded the link so I could download the zip file. Problem solved. Two big pluses
over the paper version: pdf's can be keyword searched, and Adobe allows you to take full advantage of high resolution photos like these. So far, I have
been seeing low estimates, bad economy notwithstanding.

Just ponied up my 6.99 and the download is kinda slow on my machine, 13.4 kb/s, about 3 hours for the entire 157 MB. I'm on a high-speed cable connection -
did anyone else get a slow download? Mark

Same story here as Jeff.
Jim gave me a different link and I had the file in less than 4 minutes. I really appreciate Langs responsiveness on the difficulties. |

Well, the Langs auction file downloaded, but it won't open in either OS X or Windows XP. Would anyone who has the PDF's, be so generous as to upload
them to my public space on .Mac? Thanks, Mark. http://public.me.com/markhuff

Just a reminder that uploading copyrighted files to the web is a definite no-no. I guarantee you'd have the Ganung's on the warpath very quickly if that happened. For issues with your files, email Jim Schottenham at Lang's. He's quite helpful and will get the problem straightened out. |
