One reel marked Walker Bampton and M.C. Thorburn. Dingley? Internal Pics added |

I thought this reel would be here today but I think the weather is doing a number on mail so I thought would post these not so great pics of it. The reel is
3" approx. 2 7/16"possibly 2 3/8" foot with stamped markings by both Walker Bampton and M.C. Thorburn. The pic of the check is lousy so next
week I'll post a pic when I return from the Missouri River but it's a 1906-1912 similar to a Dingley check.

Dennis, I'm fairly sure it's an early Dingley. That straight latch is really neat! as well as the "2 step" foot. Can't wait to see better
pics of it. I almost pulled the trigger myself on this one, but hesitated just a nano-second and poof! you grabbed it! Congrats.

Dennis, be sure to post a good photo of the internal workings--that's the only real way to date this style reel. I think the date is probably closer to
1912-1915. but the spring/block design will tell more than the exterior. WB made this style for 5 yrs+ (perhaps longer) & it's an early post-Hardy
Dingley design. These come with at least four spring/block designs. For instance, Ken M 44s is a reel is an example of a later version.

Thanks Ken & pcg for your help. Dennis

Here's pics of the internals. I was amazed at the superb condition, leading 99% and how tight it is with a strong drag. Dingley?

Dennis, that is a very nice reel. I kept looking at that caliper spring, it is the same type of spring from the original Hardy Perfect, Turner refers to this
check as "The Early Check"(1893-1904). I am just referring to the caliper spring alone though, it is flat, has the "cat eyes" design
configured around the screws. I know enough about Dingley design to be dangerous so I will let Pat, Ken, or Rich answer. I have to say if this is a true
Dingley made reel, then it's the first time I recognized WH Dingley copying a Hardy design. But then maybe this caliper design (cats eye) was on the
Silex; it's not on the Silex in Turners book, this is the 1905-11 and this spring matches the design, around the screw holes, of the 1905 Check Turners
refers to in his book.
In any case, it is a very nice reel to own Dennis, congratulations on the acquisition. Gary |

MFRS,
Here's a pic of a Walker Bampton 2 3/4" internals which was recently on Yabe. It sure looks very much like mine. Dennis

ken , your correct , the shaft looks wrong for a dingley , the foot and frame look like a dingley , the stamp inside with only the number is ok as i have seen
his reels with only a number stamp befor , i think the heaton reels from that time period had the foots on solid , someone must have that same reel as i have
seen them befor
