I have a homeowner's rider. Rods documented with pics and copies of tags in the case of my couple of really collectible ones. Reels the same guns the same. Basically the same as the rider we had for the ex wife's jewlery and antiques (amazing how much my gear hoard has grown since I have been single with no one to support but myself) ..... I don't have anywhere near the level of accumulation that many here have. (I refuse to call it a collection I just have a lot of rods and reels that I like to use some just less often) I don't remember the exact amount but $50k of coverage is relatively cheap. Coverage for theft and fire loss. When they were writing the policy I had to give a copy of reciept as proof of value for a couple of items. I built a spreadsheet with items, pictures, serial numbers, values and documentation. Ins agent got a copy one is in lockbox at bank. Read your homeowner's policy there is likely a cap on jewlery firearms etc... that is fairly low. A little extra coverage is pretty cheap. Life is too short for cheap scotch and plastic rods.

I also have my rods insured, but for more than just fire and theft. I have mine insured for breakage also. It costs more, but I feel much more comfortable
using them, especially the classic ones, knowing that a bad spill may create an emotional, but not a financial, disaster.

I recently inquired about insurance for my collection. I was informed by my agent that for $90.00 added to my policy, I would get 100% coverage for items up to
$5000.00. Any other items valued above $5000,
would be an attachment to the policy. I would like breakage insurance but the agent told me it would be prohibitive. Just weighing in Phil |

Some of the topics discussed here cause myself to stir. Now on my to do list, is to call my home-owner insurance agent and make sure my rod's are written
in.

Bob,
I sent the list of items with attached appraisals to my Insurance Agent. I got an add on invoice of $90.00 for all the rods $5000 and under. The items that exceeded $5000.00 I think were $150.00 for each Item.. I'll have to read the ryder, but I told the insurer I wanted no deductable. but I think the smallest deductable was $50.00. Call you Insurance Agent for more information. Phil |
