do they bother you?

Jagged, erratic glue lines....yes. Straight, smooth lines like the Phillipson rods, absolutely not. ......Gives a rod character. Phillipson's are the
perfect example. Even when one has been stripped of markings it is still easily recognizable and doubt anyone would question their quality.

You better believe it's a problem.....I don't care what anyone says, esthetics matter. There's some classic rods for sale on the net, asking major
bucks, that have ungodly glue lines.

Hi Chartist1,
I was trying to use some diplomacy (enter wisecrack here), but if you read my other posts you know how I feel about this subject. Chuck |

Not if they are used in the garden as tomato stakes.

I have 2 of the early Phillipson rods and find the glue lines show the accuracy of the makers skill. |

I think glue lines have a historic significance with the early classic rod makers such as Gillum. Wasn't this the era (1940s and 1950's) where
synthetic glues were created and adopted?

.......and I might add you would be passing up many of the great classics if we wanted every rod that comes along to be free from glue lines. PHY, Garrison,
Gillum, Dickerson, Halstead and the list goes on! Also as already mentioned the Thomas and Thomas built in 1993 to commemorate Gillum, which is a work of art,
glue lines and all!

I had a Wojniki with straight, even dark glue lines. It added to the overall beauty of the rod.

I remember that rod Jim. Mario had added the glue lines to that rod. It's was stunning and the only one I have seen to date!

I am also a fan of resorcinal glue lines, it shows the true tightness of the craftsmans work. I've tipped rods in a claret color, I've been asked
what the tipping color was and replied it was resorcinal :-)
