Going fishing with Angry Andy |
Lead | ||
|
Aquabonito and I are going to meet each other for the first time tomorrow to fish the Gunpowder. Taking the day off because it's my birthday and as the
commercial says "I'm worth it". *G* He fishes down, with wets. I prefer fishing upstream and will be casting Hendricksons. Should be
interesting.

You guys should make beautiful music together--that is, if
Andy uses a silencer on his reel and you don't model your account of this adventure after the Chief Inspector's unfinished serial novel. |

Spruce and Andy, I wish you guys a great fishing day. I'm holding my rainchecks with both of you and hope to cash in come late May.
Cheers, Paul |

So, what's the report? The GP has been tough from time to time, as Paul and I can attest.

I hate to disappoint BHB (actually, no I don't), but this will be short and our reels were not silent.
I met Andy for the first time in person around 10 am on the Gunpowder. Contrary to his nom de guerre he is quite a pleasant fellow. It was breezier than expected and the water was higher than normal but not unfishable. Andy fished wets on a slide band Granger 8642. (See picture of him swinging. Flies.) On reports of Hendricksons I was fishing dries, emergers and nymphs with an 8' FE Thomas Browntone (shown) - to no avail. Andy had a couple of missed strikes which was a couple more than I had.
We parted company around 1:30 and I high-tailed it to the pool I wanted to be at when the hatch started, especially since four carloads of New Yorkers piled out and donned waders as I was bidding adieu to Andy. Guess there are no trout in NY. I got to the long pool and only one other fisherman was there. I thought I was set. In the next 45 minutes (all the time I had left to fish) I saw about ten Hendricksons and two rises. Not the stuff of fishing legend. I did manage to fool one pretty 11" brown. It was a beautiful day and spring along the Gunpowder is the one time of year I am reminded of home in central NY. There was bloodroot (see pic), trout lily, small violets, and may apple. The only flower missing down here is my favorite, trillium.

Good report and pictorial spruce.
Looks to have been a beautiful day astream with a new fishing partner! Couple of nice rods there! I own a Granger 8642 and it is one of my very favorites! Looking to latch onto a Thomas Mahogany or Browntone, when I can afford it! Bob

You guys should have fished in SNP - so much Trillium up this year it's distracting!
