Wrote these down while bidding today. Rods did surprisingly well. This is all unofficial of course, but was what was posted as final gavel on Live
Auction's feed. Get the unofficial final auction results by Clicking Here. -- Dr. Todd

Some of them went at what I perceived to be market value or slightly better but I think I saw some decent buys, particularly on Friday's rods. The number
of good, fishable rods that sold for $250 or less on Friday was surprising. It was quite noticeable in the Orvis and Thomas offerings. Friday's rods were
seemingly the less 'desirable' lots, with more short tips or replaced wraps and reel seats, but there really were some great buys like the 6 1/2'
Orvis and the Thomas Streamer.

As Todd shows on his blog, a 7.5' Edwards Bristol-era rod, although apparently "new," sold for $3,200. Then w/ buyer's fee, cost total was
$3,776.

The Lang's sent out an email about the end of the auction. Live Auctioneers had a software failure at the end of Saturday's auction:

I bid on a number items but was concerned about evaluations & appraisals placed upon the items. It caused to me to do alot of lowball bids. Why, I consider
myself fairly knowledgeable about older Winston's and when I see a Winston that was built in 50's with a newer era reel seat it scares me of who's
doing the evaluation of why it's not noted. The second tip on the rod was added on later since most all early Winston's came with one tip hopefully
done by Glenn which I believe he did. Nothing was noted in the description other than the second tip is a little darker. Then there was the Winston 8' with
just " Winston " written on the butt. I've never seen anything like that. There were other things I noted but I won't go into it. The only
Winston's I bid on were the 6'6" and the 8'6" since they were correct. The 9' was correct but I didn't bid it was too long. My
rant is over.

There were other problems. I found I couldn't watch LiveAuction on a Mac. Hard to imagine, and no notice on Lang's website. I killed about 30 minutes
going between three computers trying to get one to work. Then after registering I also found that I couldn't make a bid. As already noted in another post,
postage charges are strange--and probably should have been capped at some amount. So the 2009 change hasn't gone smoothly.

Shipping is 6% for purchases totaling $1000, 4% for totals between $1000 and $5000, and 2% for totals above $5000. Shipping includes insurance and Delivery
Confirmation. Postal insurance on a $5000 item is a hair under $50, the equivalent of 1% (though that's not how it's calculated). It pays to buy
another $10 item if it will bump you to the next bracket. *g*

I was aware that Macs would not work, last week. I was trying to get a copy of XP but the only viable XP disks have to be gotten on EBAY. This was a learning
experience for Lang's. I would like to thank the board members at the show that let me use their PC's. I got a T & T "Hendrickson".

HERMES2069,
You forgot to log off after your bid. Bruce, Dave, Charlie, and I had a hay-day when you left. Let us know when the rods and reels arrive. We'll arrange for pickup. ![]()
