A David Slater or ?? |
Lead | ||
|
Thought I'd show a recent find and ask opinions of maker and vintage. The rims look a bit like a David Slater but overall it doesn't seem as well
built as a Slater I have. It is 2.5" diameter, 7/8" between plates, 2.5" foot, 5.0 oz., horn handle, smooth operating with zero wobble, and
equal pleasant click both directions. The caliper spring is mounted by 2 integral spurs that go into 2 holes on the plate and peened in place. Thanks!

I've always associated those large centre arbours with Heaton reels.
If you've heard this story before, don't stop me, because I'd like to hear it
again.

In my own opinion the answer is no.

It sure looks like a Heaton reel I had, foot was earlier on mine I believe and the frame is different. The plate screw and handle are identical to mine and
the caliper spring had not stud/ hole showing on the backplate, as was mine.
