He's been away. Supposed to be back in a couple of days, I believe.

I need to become a rod builder! For the simple fact that you get to take 3 week long steelhead fishing trips!!!!!

Rod building certainly has a few perks that go with the job. Why not! You've got to test out new tapers and building techniques. I got an email from Chris
just before he left. He said he'd be back on April 22.

22nd is right. I should have checked my calendar before posting. Guess I can drive by and get that rod now.

Ol' Chris likes doing R&D, and you can certainly feel it in his splendid rods.

Morning Troy! Left the event immediately after Mr. Whitekeys and prior to the actual auction. Should have stayed. The trip to Brooks Camp didn't even make
the opening minimum. Planning to fish anywhere in Alaska this season? You might want to try the rod Chris built for me last summer, a SH8683h. Took it to
Kodiak last October for silvers, and will be using it for steelhead and silvers this fall.

Hi Dave --
Oh, that is sad. Was the turnout weak, or is everyone just pinching pennies with the recession and all? I ran through the silent auction one time on my way to my daughter's soccer match at Dimond High, but didn't make it back until it was wrapping up. I guess I saved money without even trying... When did Cary Carrigan stop auctioneering? I would DEFINITELY enjoy casting Chris' rod when you have time. His work looks beautiful from the photos I've seen. Someday I'll make it over to his shop to talk an evening away. We've been threatening for a couple years, but just haven't met up yet. I will be out at North Star for the next few weeks finishing up this extended reach well -- Alaska state record! |

I didn't even stay until Whitekeys performed. I went through each room a couple of times and didn't see anything I wanted. I bought an AFF shirt and
went home.
I heard some complaints later that some of the auction workers were buying the good stuff cheap before the cash and carry auction even started. Some Hardy reels were mentioned. Now don't be tying up Chris's evenings until he gets my rod finished!!!!! The SH8683h sounds interesting. I was thinking about trying some of my vintage heavier rods on salmon, but they are mostly nine footers. |

Thanks for the concern and kind words guys! I did indeed just get back from an *ahem* exhausting 2 week R&D outing doing cast and stress tests on some new
tapers. I'll put up some photos and a website update when I get the remaining photos from the rest of the guys who were involved.
For now though it is back to the bench so I can get you gentlemen some cane to play with this summer!
Chris
