Live Auctioneers had some fairly bad technical problems. There's another post that goes into more detail. Parts of the auction are having to be rerun this
weekend.

quillg wrote: I'll say !!!! Some of the fly reels went CHEAP !!!! I sure wish I had gotten on the computer a bit earlier on Saturday. I can't believe what the Leonard Bi-Metals, the Patent Orvis in the box and the Billinghurst went for. I haven't seen prices that low EVER. I paid twice as much and more for those reels 25 years ago. Your right, there were a number of good deals for those that took part in the "auction". However aren't you glad you weren't one of the
consignors.

Rod prices, A changed, distressed economy? | #5 | ||
|
There were 71 rods in the Keane collection that went off on Friday. The average low estimate for the 71 rods was $440 and the average high estimate was $605.
The total hammer price for these rods was $29115 or an average of $410 per rod, less than the average low estimate. Of the 71 rods only five (7%) of the 71
were over the high estimate. They were two Young's, two T&T's and the Calviello & Trucco.
For Saturday there were 91 rods that went under the hammer. The average low estimate per rod was $632 and the average high estimate was $870. The average hammer price was $696 for a total hammer price for the Saturday rods of $63380. Of the 91 rods 12 (13%) went for more than the high estimate value. As expected they were a Garrison, Dickerson, Edwards (2), T&T, Payne (3), Hardy (2), Winston, and a Shakespeare (?). Several of these just crawled over the high maximum. These figures are based on the SOLD prices posted on Liveauctioneers web site. As stated, a number of super deals.

Now, now, lets play nice Dave. If you continue to carry on like this I'll tell everyone about the "nice" rods you ended up with!!!

It was an interesting auction for sure. Many of the vintage rods I was interested in were pretty low in the quality department. Of note was an 8' Thomas
with a slightly short tip that IMO, was poorly redone. It is now listed on a dealer's site with a 300%+ markup! There were still some great deals on
tackle though.

You mean like the Edwards Winchester with the smashed tips hidden in the tip tube that was sealed unreachably under the Saran Wrap swaddling and it became impossible to inspect them? Or the other Winchester with the unmatched tips similarly hidden away? Hey, it's a Discovery Auction, right? And I discovered something. On the other side of the coin, of course, there was the complete, full-length A&F Hawes that nobody seemed to realize was equally buried inside yet another bundle. Life is just one long voyage of discovery.
