all, anything you can provide would be a huge help..
Thanks in advance ! -Nate |

Nate,
Good thing you don't want to fish TROUT, cause as most will tell you, there are no trout in WI. For starters you can check out these websites. http://www.flyfishingwis.com/board/index.php http://www.wisflyfishing.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl http://www.driftlessangler.com/ http://www.tightlinesflyshop.com/ At least two days in the Driftless area will be time well spent. Check in with Mat at the Driftless Angler. For more diverse fishing, check out Tightlines in DePere. It is close to Green Bay and offers a variety of fishing options. Have fun on your trip! Scott |

Another site, aimed more at the northwest corner and the Namekagon River.

I second a visit with Mat at the Driftless Angler in Viroqua, WI. He's got a nice shop, can fix you up with a guide if you're interested AND he has an
apartment right over the shop that he rents. Well worth your time to give him a call if you're going to spend any time in the area.
Pat "He told us about Christ's disciples being fisherman, and we were left to assume...that all great fishermen on the Sea of Galilee were fly
fisherman and that John, the favorite, was a dry-fly fisherman."

Flies, Streams, Food, Lodging,
No one has mentioned food, so a few local favorites I like in the Viroqua, Westby, Coon Valley area: Old Town Inn, Firehouse, DiSciasio's Italian. Try the Torsk. If you don't have a cholesterol problem, try the deep fried cheese curds. If you don't have an alcohol problem try a brandy Manhattan. Lodging: Old Town Inn, Westby. An old friend of mine, Dave Barron is competent guide in nearby Richland Center and he and his wife have a B&B. http://www.jacquishhollowangler.com/. Also accommodations on the West Branch of the Kickapoo, both camping at Sportsman's Park and Lodging about a mile south on the river where the odd little golf course is. There is a typical Super 8 Motel in Viroqua. I'll leave the Fliles and Streams to the experts. I'm just a tourist. SW Wisconsin is one of my favorite places. |

I just returned last Saturday from spending 4 days at my usual hangout, the West fork of the Kickapoo near Viroqua. Averaged 20-30 fish a day on the West Fork
and Spring Coulee. The area is fishing exceptionally well with good hatches of caddis on all streams. There is a great campground at Avalanche, the West Fork
Sportsman's Club, if you're interested in camping. Otherwise my pick for lodging would definately be the Old Town Inn in Westby. I've stayed there
several times when rain has driven us out of the campground. The rooms are clean, and it has it's own restaraunt that is absolutely out of this world!
Homemade soups, breads, etc., and excellent steaks. Rooms are very reasonable.
As others have said, make your first stop The Driftless Angler and have Matt give you the lay of the land. Also pick up a DeLorme Wisconsin Atlas & Gazetteer if you haven't already. BTW, the Super 8 in Viroqua is now under new ownership & the name has changed. I can't remember the name, but Matt could tell you. It does have a nice indoor pool if that interests you. The wife & I are planning a 3 day trip up there over Memorial Day weekend, and I can't wait! The floods up there over the last 2 years have flushed & rejuvenated the streams and the trout are fat & happy. I spend a lot of time turning over rocks and the bio-mass in those streams is incredible. As for flies, you'll want olive dries (16-18), beadhead pheasant tails (16-18), green, grey, & tan elk hair caddis (14-18), green & tan caddis pupa (16-18). I can usually clean house with a green beadhead caddis pupa dropper 20 inches below an elk hair dry.

As Erik stated, lots of options. Most of my fishing is done in NE Wisconsin where trout streams and public land are abundant. After Memorial Day, take lots of
bug spray!!! I would suggest you look at the map Erik posted and decide on a location or locations and then ask about specific streams, lodging, and food.
