Hi Guys, The question, to my mind hasn't been answered by referring to rods with out numbers. Saying a rod casts a 9wt, say, 'like a canon'
isn't specific. I might have a short light rod with a very fast taper or a long heavy rod with not much taper at all. My brother has a 7' Leonard
that [oops I only have the taper for the tip and mid] well anyway, I think it's light and fast. It's .003/inch on those sections. I thank Blue Quill
for putting the term 'regressive action' into my terminology. I found that type taper when miking Paul Young rods although older rods might increase
the the taper to stop the action like the 'six foot rod on a three foot stick' Fast taper is found by.000's/inch, so mike the butt, mike the tip
and subtract it from the butt and divide by the total overall length in inches = .000's/inch. Fast or slow? The 'stick' part of a regressive
taper can't count in this exercise and has to measured 'cause we're looking at the whole rod and besides it's just for fun and doesn't
really describe a rods true character. What about internal taper on hollow rods? Does it affect speed? What's the highest number of .ooo's/inch of
any bamboo fly rod. Jay Edwards
