Bert Quimby passed on some years ago. His fly shop was in Windham, ME. (out of his house, I think). He is one of the 5 or 6 most famous New England Streamer
tyers. I have a some of his flies. I'll post a photo later on.
It's nice to see Thomas rods being talked about consistently here. |

My 8 1/2' Dirigo was made in 1937 and is still fishing strong and often. Thanks goes out to Steve Campbell for the info on my rod. Nice 5wt dry fly taper
it also has the Hardy style seat with the black spacer. I recall reading someplace that it was hard rubber. Mine is excellent all around rod just has a nice
well balanced feel to it. My tips are short by a 1" to 2" but still cast wonderfully. One of these days... I ought to have at least a new tip made.

I think it is hard rubber.

Eric,
I don't know but what I do know there's still 2' of snow on the ground and where you have dirt roads and snow has melted off they're muddy muck. Dennis |

Thomas production ledgers | #28
|
You are correct Jeff, I hadn't received them at that point, but I have the ledgers in hand now.
Last week would not have been a good one anyway, as I had a death in my family. I'd be glad to try and help anyone that needs info on their Thomas rods going forward. thanks Steve |

Steve, thanks so much for your help in keeping the Thomas flame burning. I'm glad you got the ledgers, and that they're home.

Back from the Delaware | #32

All;
Thanks for all the information and nice words about this rod. When I created the thread, I said I was psyched to try the rod on the Delaware on Monday and Tuesday. Bottom line: an absolutely terriffic rod for that water (we fished the lower East Branch of the Delaware). At 8'6", good length to cover large water and manage tricky mends, plenty of butt to handle big wild fish, and tips that protected 6X. I fished it with a Rio Gold WF6 on a 3-screw mid arbor 3 3/8" St. George, which balanced it really well. I wanted to try it with a DT6 as well, but was having too much fun to stop and switch reels. Maybe next time. |
