There's a Lyle Dickerson on Lang's store website , I would think at that Price its going for it would be gone by now. Is there a underlining Problem
with this Rod??? also is that Douglas duck that's has a broken tip , what do you think of that too , price wise.

Im no expert but I would think that Dickerson rod could sell for double that price!!!!!!!!!!!! Current price is $2750. It has been professionally refinished by
John Gallas, and one tip repaired, yet this rod seems to have the original hardware including reel seat, cork, signature, bag and tube etc. I wish i had the
cash, I would jump on that in a heartbeat!!!! I would think this would be a wonderful rod to fish without being nervous about fishing a $10,000 Original
untouched Dickerson. I would think this rod will sell pretty fast. What a great deal for someone!!!!!!.
As a side note, A Refinished by Steve Blake Granger Registered #194877 just sold for $600!!! That rod could have easliy brought in a higher price than that, perhaps in the $1500 range. I guess there is a huge price drop in rods that have been refinished as opposed to original untouched ones. Just my 2 cents. Best Regards, KM

I made the mistake of not looking at it till this morning. I was out at dinner and tired when I got back ...that was stupid... some real bargains. I picked
up the Hardy Hydra 3.5 (new ish made for some hardware company $125) and 8642 victory (1 tip but balance looked in good shape) $250 I love the 8642 taper
and for that price think I just added a nice user to the quiver. A refinished aristocrat 7030 went for cheap and a registered 9' went for 600 I'd
have bought both at 9:01 last night if I'd been smart. Oh well I'll be standing by at the bell for the next one. Nice way to buy instant no
bidding prices seemed low to me.....I agree that the price on the dickerson feels low

Was it just me or did others have trouble looking at the listings. I kept getting screens that said to try again later. Five minutes later I'd finally
get access again only to have the same thing happen. To say I was "frustrated" is being too polite.

Same problems at my end. I finally gave up. Sure wish they'd solve their technical issues. :-)

Spruce, same here!! plus, somehow I thought there were going to be many, many more rods? But I only saw 1 page of them. By the time I got in, anything I would
have wanted was long gone. Oh well, better luck next time.

According to a posting by Lang's they were hit with a DOS (Denial of Service) attack last evening and are seeking assist from their IT folks to capture the
perpetrator.

The Granger Aristocrat 7030 and Registered 9' sold immediately 9:00:01. I couldn't get on the site quick enough. The problems started immediately.

Seems strange and almost too good to be true to sell these items at well below market prices. A quick sale and lots of interest in your store is guaranteed,
but I'm sure that if they would've been offered on the 'Bay in a no reserve auction, they would've sold for more. I wonder how long they will
keep the prices at this low level. But some great deals, any forum members got lucky?

Love to know the source of that DOS attack - I went online to the store at 9 precisely, got the first screen, and the thing tanked. After a LARGE number of
tries, some of which allowed me through to the Shopping Cart (but no further), I finally completed one of the purchases in the Shopping Cart(out of 3 - the
other 2, including the 7030, came up Out of Stock) at 9:25. Now I discover that the 7030 went out a second after 9:00. How he do that when nobody else can
get in?
A DOS attack implies a malignant intent - either out of sheer mischief or for gain. My first reaction was that the Lang's servers had simply been overloaded by the tremendous number of hits - but the Page Not Found and the Unable to Connect error screens came up much more frequently than the Timed Out screen. Lang's is certainly having its troubles with the Computer Age!
The more I think I know, the less I know I know.

I too could not get in, but I've been getting messages from people who persevered and were able to purchase pieces for their collection. I guess they were
luckier than I was, as the server was clearly not "picking and choosing" who to exclude. Fortunately, the one piece I really wanted to see up close
went to someone I know.
From what I understand a D.O.S. attack is very easy to spot--an inordinate number of attempts to access a site from one or a small number of ISPs. I am betting they find the culprit, and I am equally betting the culprit gets prosecuted. They are more of a nuisance (a major one as a lot of people found out), but a serious violation of the law. If you'd like to see the text of their message it is as follows (copied from Joe's Old Lures Board): We have spent the night dealing with a range of emotions from disbelief to anger. Last night, at 9:00pm, Lang's Store was the target of a DoS (Denial-of-Service) attack. A DoS attack is an attempt to make a computer resource unavailable to its intended users. It consists of the concerted efforts of a person to prevent an Internet site or service from functioning efficiently. The method of this attack involved saturating Lang's Store with external communications requests, so that the site could not respond properly or responded slowly to legitimate traffic. This was perpetrated by a single individual. Verio isolated the problem shortly after the listing, but did not confirm this to us until after our post at 10:40pm. This was not a random attack. An attack of this type does not usually completely shut down a site, which is why the site was sluggish for some, or if your connectivity was poor, you may not have been able to navigate the site, or were disconnected. Lang's servers, which are the most powerful available for this type of application, worked perfectly. There were no failures, technical or otherwise, in any form, from Lang's Store or Verio. There was absolutely no security breach of any kind. This was an external issue, which did not involve Lang's Store program or Paypal in any way. Verio has started sorting the IP addresses to isolate the perpetrator of this malicious crime. To initiate or arrange for a DOS attack is a Federal crime, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. This is a heinous act, but what makes it even more unfathomable is it was almost certainly committed by someone who is currently on our mailing list, who is reading this post, a tackle collector. The advertising for this Store listing was only sent to those who have an email address on file with Lang's and those who view Joe's board, the ORCA board, and Clark's board. While that is a fairly large number of people, Verio is optimistic that the perpetrator will be found. When identified, we will use every legal means available to prosecute this criminal to the fullest extent of the law. This act will not go unpunished. For those of you that were anticipating an exciting night that ended in frustration, you have our apologies. We have worked for weeks to give you a large listing with great items, and we too were anticipating a very different evening. We are incredulous that someone would go to these lengths to try to hurt not only Lang's, but the buyers and sellers. On a good note - collectors were buying steadily all night long, with tackle being purchased from 34 states, and several countries. There are still great items available in every category - Please go to: www.LangsStore.com and have a look. Most of the items in this listing came from long time collections, with additional items from those same collections to be listed in the next few weeks. We take great pride in our work and will continue to do our very best to offer a service that is both reliable and beneficial to all of our buyers and consignors. Thank you to all who have shown your support, Jim, John & Debbie |

It was extremely frustrating. I finally got on, clicked to buy a reel listing, finally got to checkout and paypal only to be bounced off. Then the listing
showed "no longer available" -- Perhaps I just don't understand their system.

Dennis,
Yes, that seems to have been a fairly common glitch. I read on Joe's Board it likely had to do with the fact someone else had it in their cart and paid for it a second before you did...frustrating, yes, but I guess it's like the guy in front of you at the flea market picking up the Hardy Uniqua from a pile of junk you'd been reaching for. -- Dr. Todd |

Does Lang's now have a return policy if the item is not correctly described? I attended the January 2004 auction and learned quickly to never purchase an
item you can't personally inspect if there is no return policy in force.

wefishcane: They must have a return policy. It was listed in the forum classifieds and the forum classified rules state:
"It is expected that all items being offered have a 3 day inspection period unless otherwise noted in the listing. All items will have a price listed with a means for you to be contacted, i.e. either via PM or email. We do not allow auctions or solicitations for offers (a listed price with or best offer is fine). Buyers are expected to be responsible for shipping and insurance in both directions unless prior arrangements have been made, Thanks." . |

Do they care? | #18 | ||

Shenanigans aside, IMO and I'm no IT Wizard, Lang's needs to develop an online sales procedure/system that's fair for everyone.
What they have now simply is not. Nor is it reliable. Of course if they sell all or most of what they offer through The Store anyway, why would they even care? Regards, Flyman

I'd like to know who scored that refinished 2/2 W&M Aristocrat 7030 for $250 and the 3/1 Granger Victory 8040 for $250, one second out of the auction.
Naive me, I forgot about the 6pm EST opening until the auction was a couple of hours old, and I kept thinking that "if only I'd been there when it opened"...yeah, if only I'd been there when it opened, I would have collided with a dozen other scramblers, and probably lost out. Even without the Denial Of Service issues...whoever did that is just plain no-class. I hope they weren't doing it with the intention of seeking an advantage at the auction- not that any other motivation is acceptable. I don't see why Lang's couldn't do a 15-minute on-line e~a~ style auction...

I think you guys are onto something. I'm no retail expert, but it seems to me that when you stock your "store's shelves" only once every two
weeks at precisely the same well-advertised time, you're inviting a mad rush at the very least. And, it's probably a pretty good bet that somewhere in
the crowd there is at least one miscreant intending something less than honorable. The Internet is still very much the Wild West and you need to behave
accordingly.
