The rod is a 9-ft., 3/2. Regardless of the wrap colors or pattern or grip or reelseat, I'm certain it's not an Edwards. So is it a Heddon? Opinions, please!

Here's a Weber Henshall Streamline. I'm posting photos for a forum member.

From what I can see I would say Heddon. Based mainly on the handle shape. Kinda reminescent of a Model 35.
That D/L reel seat is a new one on me though.......for a Heddon, or any other rod. I've never heard of a Weber Streamline. Of course there are a lot of things I've never heard of or seen. Lots of help huh? Bob Go Heels!!! |

Bob,
The rod is a dead-ringer for an Edwards-made Weber JA Henshall--one of his best trade rods (if not his best). The grip, the wraps, the check, the reelseat--it's all identical. But Weber only sold the Weber JA Henshall & Weber Special up to 1930, then production shifted to Heddon. I own Weber catalogs from 1928 to 1938 (and a single for '42) & the Streamline does not appear in any of those. If it didn't say Streamline, I'd say Edwards. But--?! Pat |

No doubt about it, from my opinion, it's an Edwards. I am also sitting here looking at my J.A. Henshall Special and thinking that it is exactly the same
including the wraps. I also own 2 Heddon Webers and there is no comparison.

Old Overholt Rye Whiskey Made 1945 in Broadford PA | #9 | ||

Bob,
How about something totally different. A few years past a friend of our families father passed away. While helping her clean out the cellar, low and behold a cache of old liquor. Johnie Walker from the 1950's, Rye Whisky's from the 1940's etc. Our friend doesn't drink, so I receive a gift of some old bottles. Since, they were stored in a cold basement, they aren't too bad. I just opened this one now as I am writing this, and its not single malt, but it isn't too bad. Now I have to figure out where are those pictures I took for Rex, that he's been waiting for. Ed |

Thank you Pat for posting my pictures. Thank you everyone for your comments. I don't know why I can't post the pictures, I have had no trouble in the
past. Who knows?
The problem here is that I would like to sell the rod. But do I sell it as an Edwards? I don't want to misrepresent the rod. What is it worth? Aaron Wiener |

Aaron, I think the best you can do is describe it as "possibly Edwards, possibly Heddon." What's even more difficult is pricing it. If a genuine
EWE, it's worth well over $1000--as CR & I can attest, several Weber Henshalls made by EW Edwards have sold in excess of that during the past year. On
the other hand, if it's a Heddon, value drops by probably half--possibly more (Heddon experts--chime in if I'm off!).
At this date I've looked in all of my published references, and through my Weber catalogs, and simply turn up nothing called a Streamline. If I had the rod in hand, I could lay beside an Edwards example & begin to compare variables. Otherwise, there's just speculation. Sorry. |

To me the rod looks like it was made by Edwards but not during the time when EW was around. The ferrules are of a lower grade than the 8' Weber I owned, in
part because they do not sport the dual rings/bands on the male ferrules. I had a A&F Favorite (Edwards) from the 30's with the same ferrules. The
reel seat looks to be from the Bristol era but as Pat stated it's hard to tell without having the rod in hand.

I have owned a number of Edwards and a number of Heddons and to me the wrap scheme/ colors, cane color, and reelseat indicate this is clearly not a Heddon but
a Gene Edwards rod.
