We know that W&M cut back on the number of wraps on the Granger rods over the years....what we are not sure about is just how much they actually cut back. Here's how you can help. If you have a W&M DeLuxe or Favorite, PLEASE count the wraps for me. For the DeLuxe, let me know how many gold trim wraps your rod has at the end of the guide wrap. DO count the one that touches the guide wrap (the tipping wrap). They started at 4 (on each end of the guide) before cutting back. Let me know how many your DeLuxe rod has. Here's a pic of the original DeLuxe wraps: For the Favorite, count the number of small gold wraps in the signature, and count ALL of the intermediate wraps on the entire rod (count on one tip only) and LET ME KNOW THE LENGTH of the rod. The original signature was jasper, 6 gold wraps, and jasper. Be sure to tell me the length of your rod when you count intermediates - that's really important! Here's a pic of the original Favorite signature: If you'd rather send a picture (which would be GREAT), send them to Paducahmichael @aol.com. Posts: 750 05/04/2009 22:55	Hi Guys, I love this stuff. Mike, I have an 8 1/2' Deluxe that I got from Jim. It has four trim wraps. It is original with one short tip. It says 'Granger Deluxe' but there is no W/M. The writing reads towards the ferrule. It has the copper colored tube. Let us know what you conclude. These are cool rods. Jay Edwards

Posts: 25 05/06/2009 23:26	Hi Michael, My 7' De Luxe rod has two gold wraps(counting tipping) on either side of the guide; the mid-butt signature has a TOTAL of five yellow wraps(one centered on jasper, two as tipping and two non-touching). My 7' 6" Favorite has six yellow signature wraps; it has 10 intermediates on the butt(counting the two that flank the ink stamping), 16 on the mid, 24 on the tip section. Both are original, the De Luxe unfished. P.S. Are you sure those are original wraps on the Favorite? Just curious as the variegated silk is really bright. Doesn't the shellac and varnish together with age usually 'yellow' the silver/black thread?

As to the wraps I showed in the photos, those are on restored rods which have the appearance of the wraps when they were brand new. What I was showing was the original PATTERN of the wraps. Sorry for any confusion! Vintage rods usually do display some degree of varnish aging, and the wraps may appear to be black and yellow or sometimes they even look black and greenish. Aging does some really nice stuff to some wraps - B/W Jasper is one of the more dramatic examples. Posts: 42 05/07/2009 17:26	Hi Michael, Nice looking restorations. Did you use any type of color preserver, clear lacquer, or shellac on your wraps or were they finished using varnish? BTW, I have two W&M Deluxe rods with two tipping wraps on both sides of each guide and a Goodwin with four tipping wraps on both sides of each guide. My Goodwin's signature wrap is also identical to the one you have pictured.
