Ralph, You have me fired up, I'll be coming on Wed. and staying at Elkmont. The get together at Metcalf Bottoms sounds great as that is in the area of my
favorite fish area. I hope those yellow flies are coming off, the trouts really like them.
That super dooper thing is just what I need for one of those Boo's I just bought. |

Flies for Bamboo Bash '09 | #44 | ||
|
I probably covered this somewhere before... but, if you tie your own get out your recipe for soft hackles... any shade of yellow or green. Probably not larger
than a 14, and keep them simple. I just tyed up about 25 to supplement what I already have. I've actually had better luck with soft hackles than dry
flies.
Just a hint. Ralph |

Rich had me at "sausage" of course--I've just been juggling a few appointments to see how quickly I could get to 'em.
Let me know if you need buns/ice/soft drinks, etc. and I'll head them that
way.

Jon; Thanks for all the help... we've got lots of folks really looking forward to this whole business. I'll make up a sign for the Bash weinnie roast
so folks know where we are located in the picnic grounds. I'll try to get there early and help Rich get stuff set up on Thursday. Now if the weather will
cooperate...........

All the cool places to stay are booked up it seems so I had to settle for the Econolodge.....Well, the price was right anyway....Weather permitting, I am
planning on arriving around noon Thursday.....The little river is roaring from all the rain so I will watch the little river outfitters stream reports. Ralph,
I plugged your cell phone number in so if you see a call coming from 513 area code, that'd be me looking for directions.

Weather Forecast | #48 | ||
|
I just got finished working with my buddies at the National Weather Service here in Huntsville, since the folks in TN seem so reticent to issue a real
forecast.
The story goes like this: We've had this "never ending story" of mini-fronts marching thru the South over the last few weeks. This appears to be weakening and what we can look for is almost perfect fishing weather before and during Trout Fest/Bamboo Bash. Tuesday is supposed to be clear and bright with temps in the 70s, Wed/Thurs/Fri/Sat are to be essentially cloudy to overcast with brief periods of rain possible. Right now, all precipitation looks to be either light or in isolated locations. There is fishing all over the Park... so if it has rained in one area, we can always fish another... that's the beauty of this fishery. Bring rain gear, but most importantly BRING YOUR WADING STAFF. There are trees all around, so you can always get out of the rain. Ralph |

We wish you could be here as well Jeff. Why not kick the tall lanky one in the shin and you two could drive over non-stop in about 20 hours. Really give
everyone something to talk about!!!
Your rod will be on display along with others of the famous SRG crowd, as well as some vintage materials. The enviroment around Townsend would be just perfect for a genuine gnome.... Ralph |

Dear Mr. Western Gnome. Your Southern Appalachian cousin Bubba would live in a "holler" not a hollow and when the clan becomes larger they would move
to a "cove" where they would feast on taters.

Yesterday I was fishing on the Watauga River in Elizabethton Tennessee. My friend and I spotted something swimming upstream. He said that it was an Otter, But
I know better now. It must have been Bubba Gnome. I didn't realize that you guys could swim so fast.
But then again, I was sipping some "spring water" out of a Mason jar and my buddy was smoking some foul smelling stuff out of a funny little .
Maybe that had something to do with the rare sighting.

Gnomes, you say? The Cherokee called them the Little People, the Yunwi Tsunsdi, as good an explanation as any why some folks get a little lost in these
hollers and wind up (very) late for supper.

Paducah Michael and his wife "Shorty" are the lead contingent of the Bash crowd, along with myself. After we got them licenses and lunch we hit the
West Prong of the Little River and they managed to Christen their new rods... "Shorty" got a 7" Rainbow and Michael got a somewhat smaller
Brown. We then hit the Middle Prong above Tremont and Metcalf Bottoms before calling it a night.
Water is a bit high, but should be fine by Thursday PM if we don't get any more rain. Today was beautiful and sunny, things are quiet here in Townsend. All the big folks coming in tonight, Joe Humphrey's, Lefty Krey, Clouser, etc. ... Gary Lacy will be here some time Saturday morning, plus a load of folks from the manufacturers... should be interesting. Not too late to come. Ralph |
