I have been tracking bamboo rods for about 10 years and become intrigued by the fairly well known makers who produce a fair number of rods but are scarce on
the secondary market, imho a testement to there rods as the buyers hold on to them. These are ones i notice most Walt Carpenter,Rick Robbins,Dana Gray,Bill
Harms, just a few of the ones that are most notable where i seldom see a rod of theres comming up for sale on the secondary market.Lets here of others who have
such loyal users.

Never sees are Dana Gray and Jim Hidy. Rare spottings are John Bradford, Jim Reams, Mike Spittler, and Dave Norling. Slightly less rare, but I think mostly
given their production, are Walt Carpenter and Mark Aroner. Ric

I rarely have seen a Bolt rod. I believe I've seen 3 used Bolt rods for sale in the past 10 years.

Wagner and Gallas. Both are full time makers and produce enough rods to make a decent living, and rarely do their rods pop up. They have also both been making rods for a while, especially Gallas. Some makers are tough to find on the secondary, but don't make that many rods or are retired from another career and just now making rods "full" time (or haven't made that many rods in the first place). I agree, the full time makers that make a good number of rods that don't make it to the secondary market are worth investigating; someone obviously thinks their rods are worth holding onto. |

My vote goes to Jon Parker. A terrific guy who made wonderful fly rods.

My vote goes to Gallas. His only fault is that he's a Yankee fan.

All it takes is 6 or 8 guys with good incomes who like to stockpile a particular maker, and his output will be tied up for years. We're not talking about
alot of available rods per year - I am told Bob Summers turns out 50 rods per year; Jennings about 25 - 35. I would imagine most one man operations rarely
turn out more than that?..... Just about ever maker mentioned has pretty sparse offerings for finding a used rod. Whne the rods really escalate in price,
they tend to become more available......

Mario Wojnicki rods are extremely hard to come by. I think a good portion of the rods he produces end up in Japan. Wojnicki rods are very sought after over
there. I have no idea what the wait list is for a Mario Wojnicki rod, probably at least a few years.

Jon Parker gets my vote also. One of the finest rodmakers who doesn't get a lot of press. Almost never see any of his rods on the secondary market.

Westslope has a Wojo for sale now; Ricks rods sold one | #11 | ||

I have a friend who just got two Wojnickis in - but I think you gents are right, so many go to Japan that they don't surface here that much......
The MW rod sthat old on Ricks rods a few mos. ago generated quite a few inquiries......

The Wojnicki on Westslope site is new from the bench of Mario so that would not count as a secondary market rod.I meen rods that are bought by a flyfisher and
sold not a maker who sells his rods through a dealer, all aforementioned makers have had rods sold new through a dealer.

Per Brandin would fit in this category. I know I waited six years for one of his rods. When you wait that long you think twice before moving it to another
owner.

Harry Boyd is a full time maker now, and I've never seen one of his rods on the secondary market. The one I own is a keeper.

A name that comes up frequently in discussions of tapers is Wayne Cattanach, yet I have never seen one of his rods for sale anywhere. Maybe he doesn't make
many? I am not sure if he is considered a " top tier" maker like Jenning, Jenkins, Aroner etc.
