It will be very nice to actually pour through a copy of the new book! Some mysteries may be solved!

No offense, Terry, but the Young-Farlow connection is visually apparent: Farlows was buying finished reels from Young (and Heaton, et.al.), because they were
selling 45 different models and couldn't possibly make them all themselves.
The most curious connection is Sharpes and Young, which is something much more subtle.

Some of you might already know something about the man behind the initial B.W.-P. - Major B. W. Powlett. He was beside his military career a skilled
flyfisherman, and he "invented" several famous flies. One of the most succesfull is the australian dry fly "Cocky Spinner" He also wrote a
chapter (Nymph Fishing for Trout" in W.A. Hunters "Fisherman's Pie - and Angling Symposium" 1926. I havent been able to find whats behind
the B. W. - but perhaps someone else have additional information?

These are both Sharpes made reels, the top a Uniqua type the bottom a Perfect - I think made prior to the Farlow BWP - anyone spot the similarities?

I have one BWP a 3 1/2 but without a line guard
I also have a newer Farlows Python that has a slide that is tappered on both ends so reel can be used left or right handed. I have no pictures of it
yet on pbucket. Scottish I agree that the idea for this tensioner may have been Sharpes idea as very similiar and your reels forsure predate these.Daryl

Ron (aka.bulldog); Thanks so much for prviding the catalog scan. So much for all of us to learn from them.
Daryl, It looks like your reel is the #2 version with the extra pawl/spring and no line guard as described in bulldog's catalog from 1935? Scottish trout; It appears Major Powlett may not have been the originator of the "wedge" if indeed the gorgeous reels you provided photos of are of an earlier vintage. Interesting to ponder. Greg |

Arrived in the post today one 4 inch Farlow BWP - pretty much unused in its original leather case - looks like JW Young made, just love the dumpy handle,
painted finish in matt black. Photographed here with Sharpe made Python and Aquarex MkII (Aquarex Mk II very much a quality reel) - and lastly a reel just
bought - not yet in my hands - a silent check Farlow BWP Enjoy....
Left hand side Farlow BWP - top Farlow Python (made by Sharpe, chrome plated foot) - bottom Sharpe Aquarex Mk11 (alloy foot)
