Hello,
I'm looking for a high quality tip top to fit on an 8 weight Sharpe Scottie for saltwater and estuary use.
I have some in the normal range of sizes but they are all way to small.
The diameter at the tip if I don't round off the corners of the bamboo is about .120".
The rod originally had very small guides that I have since replaced with larger singlefoots, and the tip top has a very small loop that's interfering with a compact skagit line that this rod loves.
Is there a source for extra large fly tip tops like this, or should I just look to a casting or spin rod tip top?
Or on an impregnated rod like this, is it OK to just wrap another single foot guide under an overwrap for the tip top?
If I do that it would be lighter by a gram or two, which I don't expect to be a problem.
Any comments, experience, or ideas?
