I put up the pics for the owner, Dave Male (aka oneculm)...please feel free to contact him...I've seen the rod when I took the pics and its beautiful and
definitely a collector's grade rod given its unusual characteristics and state of finish. In Sinclair book, that model is listed as having a different
handle than this bottle shape... so this one might even be more rare than a 120 is normally...really a great job by Dave...dj

Before my question,That is one beautiful#120.Much older than the one I have.
Now not to hijack a thread;what time frame did Heddon use the stick on lable on their grips? This is only the second one I have seen. The other is on a recently aquired early model#20. Regards Bill H |

ayres654 wrote: Hi Bill, I agree, this is a most fine "Extra Light", 4 oz. class, Heddon 100 Series Model 20 built on the 1 1/2F ferrule. I'm guessing circa 1930. As to the grip label, I don't believe you can attribute that to Heddon. I'm thinking it was applied by the trade rod sporting goods company "Jack Keefe Sporting Goods".........whomever they might be? Could be by Heddon, but I wouldn't think so? Anyone familiar with that firm?....Whitefish Press? Rather cool labelling! I would suggest in this instance, the label only adds value to the rod, as it is most appealing. The rod appears to be very straight and in most excellent spruced up condition! Bob Go Heels!!!

Me again, the guy that can't spell too good.
I believe there two labels stuck on the rod.A dealers label over top of the Heddon one. Bill H |

Bill,
I believe you are right. That is one beautiful rod. I have never seen a #120 that early before, and never any #120 in that type of original condition. Thanks for sharing the pics DJ. Ed |

However, it appears to have been restored. Those wraps, varnish do not look original. Also there's wear on the #120 which should not be evident unless it
was a restoration.
No yellowing of the varnish... for a 1930's Heddon... unheard of... |

Just to clear up a couple of things. The rod is not original and no where was it indicated as such. I have looked at two rods I have here that have labels
and yes I would say the small store label was placed over the Heddon label.

If it seemed like this was represented as original, then that's my fault, and I never meant it that way. I didn't want to write anything about the
specifics as I'm not the best one to do that, Dave is the one who knows this rod best and I leave it to him to write the specifics if so desired. I'll
leave it to Dave to describe what he has done to bring the rod to its present state but will state that he has never misrepresented his work so any error is an
inadvertent omission my part...I had done the posting of the pics for Dave as a favor, no financial interest on my part. I also felt that since this is maybe
the only chance for us to be able to see this example of a rare rod as it will go into someone's collection for sure and wanted others to see this rare
rod. And it is a beautiful rod, and I agree with bobeegee as I also dated it as circa 1930-1931, according to Sinclair's book. The only difference was the
handle but Heddon did a lot of changes in their rods at that time. The rod is very sound, probably not fished as the label is definitely never been removed and
I was extremely careful to not disturb it or the rod itself. This rod as I said, imo, is collector's grade. ...dj
