Thanks, Bob - I use Brownell's gun stock rubbing compound with a little steel wool. It's the one called "Triple F". Makes a real mess when
you use it, but eats off that crud in a real hurry.

What a great job you did on that rod. Very impressive. I have the exact same rod that you can start on next. The biggest problem with mine is that I have no
tip sections. I paid $50.00 for mine at the local flea market. It has a tip section but it is not the correct one.

Thanks, Gents. I sincerely appreciate it. Here's another recent project: A Goodwin Granger DeLuxe (What a GREAT little rod this is!) BTW, I'm still
looking for more restoration work - let me know what you've got! (I will take trades, too, for restoration work. Would love to trade for Grangers!)

Hey Michael,
Great tip on the Brownell's Triple F for the hardware... I love the stuff and have been using it for years for polishing and "blending" varnish but never tried it on hardware.. I've got a couple of projects sitting on my bench right now that will benefit from your tip... thanks a lot, best regards, Ron |

Granger DeLuxe | #31 | ||

This rod is in oroginal condition except for two re-wrapped guides, and a reset butt female ferrel. The reel seat stampings say "The Granger Rod" and "Made by Goodwin Granger & Co., Denver" which dates it made from 1925 thru early 1928. The stamped name on the butt section says "Granger DeLuxe". It is a 9 foot rod with one tip section 1 inch short. Throws a 6 wt. great.

Nice rod! And an interesting one too.
Here's why: the rod is marked "DeLuxe" on the cane, but "The Granger Rod" on the slide band reel seat between the knurlings. This means the rod was likely made in the "transition period" between Granger's Second and Third eras. "The Granger Rod", which was a Second Era grade, was re-named the DeLuxe circa 1930. But since your rod also has the longer style grip, I'd say it was made just before the Granger patented up lock reel seat came into use circa 1934-5. I'm glad you rescued it from the "bucket o' rods". Nice save! Regards, Flyman
