My pal Charlie and I hit our reservoir waters early last Saturday in the hope of hooking up some marauding Peacock Bass. The lake was calm, lit by the glow of the rising sun and seemed deserted but we had spotted large specimens last week that lurked in the drop-offs and only charged at flies stripped back at breakneck speed. We are now fully prepared and had tied a bunch of size 12 streamers with flashy bellies to emulate the abundant bass fries frolicking at the shallows (peacocks are cannibals).
I was able to cast a nice long line almost immediately as the Zeitak quad allowed
very steady side arm casts skimming the water to beat the slight breeze. There was a sudden strong take after my 5th cast and I hooked a nice palm
size juvenile that fought well. Charlie placed his streamer immediately near the spot I took my first fish and hooked up a tail-walking larger specimen.

15 minutes into the session, Charlie shouted, 'Got a Momma!' I saw the
Wojnicki bending double and rushed over with my camera. The large bass was tail-walking one instant and sounding the next. Charlie was smiling broadly as well
grimacing as the tugging continued. Suddenly, there was a splash and the rod sprang back⦠throwing line and the fly on me and my camera. Fish gone!
and here's the movie... pardon the grass shot... I was in a state of shock!

Inspired by Charlie's valiant battle, I cast my own line out and stripped back fast. Surprisingly, another Momma Bass took my streamer. The Zeitak bent deep and the 8-pound leader snapped! Wow, 2 good fish with long range C&Rs.
What an hour of fishing. Both rods are now well tested and christened ;-) Thanks Tim &Mario!

. We will rest the waters and tempt the big mommas again and hopefully we will
have shots of 3kg plus fish
Hah! Jay, that Wojo plus my other rods are far from
'retirement'. You need to plan that trip to Singapore
The
streamers are deciever style bucktail & squirrel flies with gold
for the belly. Will try to take a picture later.
