GregB,
That's a beautiful trout. Looks like a true western native. Also like your Young and Dingley 'kit'. Cheers, Michael

Nice shots janot. I have an Olympus 1030sw on its way. Hoping to take some shots like yours underwater. Amazing what cameras can do these days. The Olympus
1030sw is suppose to hold its own down to 33 feet! Nice St.George also. Love that red agate. Matt

submerging gear? | #458 | ||
|
With all due respect for the wonderful and highly enjoyable pics that many members post, is it truly OK to submerge a
fine rod and reel under water?
I know that the gear is designed to get wet, but,... it often gives me cause to wonder. No real problems with doing that? |

Brendantm - I like your shot...it's a beautiful brookie and rod & reel. Which Thomas taper is the rod? Is it the 6' 8" - 3-wt, perhaps?

I feel I'm now qualified to post in this thread, although my reels aren't nearly as flashy as some.
First is a Gayle Simplicity No. 6 on a Cabela's 2wt. So far, the only reel I've found capable of holding a full line while still being able to balance this light little rod. It also did a fantastic job handling this early season largemouth.
Next is a Pflueger Sal-trout 1554 paired with a Granger rod I restored to fishable condition. It's my first bamboo rod and is one of several that were given to me by a friend a few years ago. I'm sure one of the experts can (and probably should) correct me if I'm wrong, but as this reel has the "cross" pattern on the backside, it was manufactured in 1935 as opposed to later models that had holes punched in the back. Both rod and reel are my go to rods now that I have an alternative to plastic. ![]()
