Anybody in USA received Rupe's JWYoung book yet?? |
Lead | ||
|
I'm still waiting on mine with no recent word from Medlar Press or the US distributor. I know I'm on the reserved list as Medlar confirmed that
several months ago. If you have received yours, was it signed?
Thanks folks, Tom |

I was/am on the Medlar reserve list -- so I emailed them again and the reply was to place my order on the UK site or to contact the US distributor. The UK site
said out of stock. I called the US distributor and he said they had not received their first shipment and he had 15-16 reservations -- he said Medlar was
reprinting as they had sold out.
So I am still waiting to hear from the US distributor. Dennis |

A reprint could take months. I've been holding my breath--and am one of the 14-15 reservations--but this sounds pretty disappointing.

![]() ![]() . This is terrible news. I've been on Medlar's list
for 2/3 years now. Why in the world would they not print/reserve enough copies to at least fulfill their reserved list? I wonder if by being on Medlar's
list with a US address automatically transfers my reserved copy to the US Distributor? I'm emailing Medlar now. ARRRGH!

I received mine, signed by both Rupe and Jim Young.
It's a beautiful book, the history is the best part, and it stays simple, understated, and historically accurate on the different patterns and models. There are a couple of my photos in there, principally the pattern 2a inside and out, and possibly others but I haven't looked in enough detail (not my choice out of the photos I've send him, but it's cool). Oh, and Rupe even left a nice segue for me by not talking about export reels. ![]()

I fessed up with Medlar in the UK several months ago, but I believe my copy came straight from Rupe, invoiced through Medlar, and posted from the UK.
I promise I've been on the waiting list longer than anyone else here - I posted the first announcements of this book - and Rupe and I have been in correspondence for several years over different questions and swapping photos. He provided me many pages of manuscript several years ago for my edification. He's a good guy.

Many "batches" in 1st Printing | #7 | ||
|
A reprint won't take months. The first batch (guestimated at 100) is sold out - I am told the following: these and the future batches to come will all be
the "first printing" - it is just that with "digital short-run printing" these days, they can do as few as 100 at a time, which they
apparently did at the low end. I guess that they had just limited number of copies in the first batch and sold out. Apparently there are many folks, dealers
included, less than pleased with this "modern" approach - one would think that "checking your orders before sending to printer" would
remain part of the modern approach - gives a new meaning to what 1st, 2nd printings will mean; as all books done now in the various batches will be 1st
printings......
It's a nicely done book and required for any library of anyone who cares for Young reels...

Book! Got mine!!! | #9 | ||
|
I received my book last week from the UK! I hope the next bunch is produced quickly, because it's a super informative bible on JW YOUNG!
For nearly 2 years I also have been on the waiting list ........ I had to email several times over the past year to re-confirm, but it was worth the wait. (Having such a long time to wait from the original publishing date, till now, no doubt messed up the waiting list . (Can you imagine the 100's of emails?) The book does have a different "look" to it, now I understand why... the digital production, a bit different than regular offset printing, but excellent, none the less. My request was to have a signed copy, and indeed it is signed by Rupe and also (surprise) JW's grandson! Hang in there guys ...... The book is a gem, and when it arrives, you will be more than happy! Dear Sir,
Thank you for your enquiry. The J. W. Young book has been published, however, we are waiting for a delivery of the books before they are available to buy. The books will be with our US distributor Ken Callahan after the 19th of June. Alternatively, you can buy the book directly from our website at www.medlarpress.com after that date. With kind regards, Roz Lewis Medlar Press The Medlar Press This is a reply I got this morning from Medlar. Daryl |

Since it sort of bugged me that I had heard nothing from either Medlar or Callahan books untill I started asking. I sent an email to Ken Callahan and this is
part of reply
= We have been told that the Medlar Press is expecting delivey of the J.W. Young book on June 16, and our copies will be sent soon after that. We will let you know when they arrive. We have a lot of other customers waiting for this book, and are eager to see them arrive = So hopefully the rest of us on list will be hearing from either Medlar or Mr Callahan soon and they have enough printed to cover the list of the rest of us that are waiting. Hope this cheers the rest of us reservies up. Daryl |
